Quick Overview

The R&B Fabrications RB828 is a rapid-deployment BLS jump kit designed to give first responders immediate, organized access to foundational medical supplies during the initial phase of emergency response across vehicle-based, fixed-post, and foot patrol operations.

The RB828 is built around a u-shaped main compartment that opens completely along three sides, creating a stable field workstation with unobstructed access to the full loadout without rummaging. The shell is constructed from 1000 Denier Cordura nylon, rated for placement on asphalt, concrete, and non-ferrous grating without hesitation. Heavy-duty #8 YKK double zippers with dual sliders allow opening from either end or center, engineered for reliable performance under operational stress.

The bag prioritizes speed of access over compartmentalization, making it suitable for multi-patient BLS scenarios where an operator must transition between patients efficiently. The 3M heat-applied silver reflective trim enhances operator visibility in low-light conditions, and the thermally bonded construction eliminates seams that would otherwise collect pathogens and complicate decontamination. The silk-screened Star of Life provides immediate visual identification of the kit as a medical asset in chaotic scenes.

This is an empty equipment carriage system. Readiness depends entirely on the operator stocking it correctly, inspecting it before each deployment, and ensuring all contents are within expiration and matched to a standardized loadout checklist. A partially stocked bag must never be returned to a ready-state.

Field Application Steps

1. PRE-DEPLOYMENT INSPECTION: Actuate all zippers through their full range of motion and check for debris in the teeth and pull tab integrity. Pull firmly on both carry handles to verify stitching is secure, and visually inspect the bag shell for rips, tears, or abrasions. Verify all medical supplies against your standardized loadout checklist, confirming presence and expiration dates before the bag is staged.

2. DEPLOYMENT AND STAGING: Retrieve the RB828 by the reinforced web carry handles, which are the primary and intended means of transport. Move directly to a central, safe location prioritizing the most critical patient, and place the bag on a stable, flat surface. Use a barrier between the bag and the ground if contaminants are present.

3. SYSTEM ACCESS: Grasp both YKK zipper pulls simultaneously and draw them outward around the full perimeter of the lid. Fold the lid back completely until the interior cavity is fully exposed and all contents are visible for immediate identification without rummaging.

4. TRIAGE AND TREATMENT: Conduct your initial patient assessment using your agency protocol, such as the MARCH algorithm, and retrieve necessary supplies directly from the open bag. Work from the bag as a staged workstation, maintaining visual inventory of remaining supplies as items are used across patients.

5. MULTI-PATIENT TRANSITION: Before moving to the next patient, partially or fully close the main compartment to prevent equipment from spilling and protect contents from environmental exposure. Use the carry handles to relocate the bag to the next patient's position.

6. DEMOBILIZATION: Once the scene is stabilized or care is transferred to an incoming EMS unit, conduct a preliminary inventory of all remaining contents. Securely zip all compartments before returning the bag to the vehicle or staging location.

7. POST-MISSION DECONTAMINATION: Using agency-approved cleaning and disinfecting solutions, wipe all exterior and interior surfaces thoroughly. Do not fully submerge the bag, as prolonged submersion degrades the nylon material over time. Air dry completely before restocking or placing the bag into storage.

8. RESTOCK AND DOCUMENTATION: Conduct a full inventory and replace all used or compromised supplies immediately. Log all supplies used according to agency policy for inventory tracking and patient care reporting. Do not return a partially stocked bag to a ready-state under any circumstances.

9. LONG-TERM STORAGE: Store the RB828 in a clean, dry, climate-controlled environment away from direct UV light, which degrades and weakens Cordura fabric over time. Confirm the bag is fully dry before sealing it for storage to prevent mold and mildew growth.
