Quick Overview

The R&B Fabrications Hazmat Equipment Bag (Model 195RB) is a dedicated PPE carriage system designed to transport complete chemical protective ensembles for Hazmat Technicians, Industrial Safety Crews, and Decontamination Unit personnel operating within an established Incident Command System.

The 195RB provides 4,200 cubic inches of segregated capacity, accommodating Level B or C chemical protective suits, chemical-resistant boots, multiple glove layers, respiratory protection including PAPR, APR, and SCBA facepieces, and ancillary support tools. Its Royal Blue Cordura® Nylon chassis with bold Yellow "HAZ-MAT EQUIPMENT" lettering enables immediate visual identification in multi-agency responses, preventing personnel from deploying standard gear or medical bags during a chemical defense mission. The 2-inch wrap-around webbing handles distribute load across the bag's chassis to maintain structural integrity under the full weight of a packed entry ensemble.

Organization is divided across two primary stowage areas. The main compartment measures 24 inches long by 13.5 inches wide by 13 inches high, providing unobstructed access to the complete PPE loadout during donning sequences. The exterior zippered pocket supports rapid deployment of high-frequency items such as nitrile gloves, detection paper, survey meters, and laminated checklists without disturbing the primary ensemble.

The 195RB is a transport and organizational tool, not a containment vessel. Cordura® fabric is water-resistant, not chemically impermeable, and the bag must never be staged where direct chemical contact is possible. Only fully decontaminated items may be returned to the bag following Hot Zone operations, and any item that cannot be safely decontaminated must be disposed of as hazardous waste per the incident waste disposal plan.

Field Application Steps

1. PRE-DEPLOYMENT VERIFICATION: Open the main compartment and confirm the full PPE loadout is present and serviceable for the anticipated threat level, typically Level B or C. Verify that the chemical protective suit, boots, gloves, and respiratory protection components are all accounted for and undamaged before apparatus response.

2. APPARATUS STAGING: Confirm the bag is stowed in a dedicated, clean, and dry compartment on the apparatus where it will not be crushed by heavier equipment. Ensure the "HAZ-MAT EQUIPMENT" lettering remains clearly visible for rapid identification during multi-agency deployment.

3. COLD ZONE TRANSPORT: Carry the bag to the designated equipment staging area in the Cold Zone using the 2-inch wrap-around webbing handles. Use the bag's high-visibility color and markings as the visual anchor for the Hazmat PPE section within the staging layout.

4. MAIN COMPARTMENT ACCESS: Fully open the main zipper to allow unobstructed access to the complete PPE ensemble. Systematically remove items in the correct sequence required for proper donning of the chemical protective ensemble.

5. ANCILLARY EQUIPMENT ACCESS: Retrieve high-frequency support items such as nitrile gloves, detection paper, survey meters, or laminated checklists from the exterior zippered pocket. Access this pocket independently of the main compartment to avoid disturbing the primary PPE loadout.

6. POST-MISSION DECONTAMINATION PROTOCOL: Do not place any item from the Hot Zone back into the bag until it has passed through the established decon corridor. Grossly contaminated equipment must never be transported in the 195RB under any circumstances.

7. RESTOWAGE AND INSPECTION: Return only fully decontaminated items to the bag. Manage all disposable items according to the incident waste disposal plan, and empty the bag completely before conducting a post-incident inspection of all interior and exterior surfaces, zippers, seams, and webbing.

8. SUSTAINMENT INSPECTION: After every operational use, inspect all surfaces for chemical staining, discoloration, or embedded debris. Check zippers for proper function and examine all seams and webbing handles for tears, frays, or broken stitching before returning the bag to readiness rotation.

9. CLEANING PROTOCOL: Clean the bag using a soft brush, mild soap, and water. Air dry completely before restowage. Do not machine wash or machine dry. If the bag has been exposed to hazardous materials and safe decontamination is not achievable, remove it from service and dispose of it as hazardous waste.

10. INVENTORY MANAGEMENT: Conduct a formal inventory on a recurring schedule consistent with agency policy, at minimum weekly and after every incident. Confirm all components are present, serviceable, undamaged, and within the manufacturer's specified shelf life before the bag is returned to its apparatus compartment.
