Quick Overview

The R&B Hose Vice 200 is a load-carriage system designed for hands-free transport of heavy fire hose bundles by a single operator during high-rise, ladder, extended lay, and RIT fireground operations where both hands must remain free.

The Hose Vice 200 uses a self-tightening, gravity-assisted cinch loop mechanism that constricts automatically around the bundle as the operator lifts and transfers full weight to the shoulder sling. This passive tensioning design requires no manual adjustment during transport and prevents the bundle from shifting, loosening, or unraveling under dynamic movement. The system accommodates 150 to 200 feet of 1¾" attack line and is adjustable from 30 to 55 inches in circumference to fit different hose loads and folding methods.

The system's six primary components are the 2-inch nylon webbing rated to 3,000 lb. tensile strength, the cinch loop assembly, the 2-inch Nexus side-release buckle, the webbing adjustment point, the molded grip handle, and the shoulder sling. The Nexus buckle serves as both the initial connection point and the deployment interface, allowing one-handed release with gloved hands at the objective. The molded grip handle supports lifting, passing, and short-distance repositioning without removing the sling from the shoulder.

Deployment at the objective follows a deliberate sequence: lower the bundle to the deck, depress the buckle sides to release, and pull the strap completely clear of the hose before flaking out. The strap is not rated for life-safety applications and must not be used for hoisting, fall protection, anchoring, or rescue drag. Pre-use inspection of webbing, stitching, and buckle function is required before every operational deployment.

Field Application Steps

1. PREPARATION AND STAGING: Confirm the hose bundle is correctly folded using an Accordion, Horseshoe, or Denver load method. Uncoil the Hose Vice 200 and open the Nexus buckle fully before application.

2. STRAP APPLICATION: Lay the strap flat on the ground and position the hose bundle over it at the bundle's center of mass. Wrap the webbing around the bundle, pass the male end through the cinch loop, and connect the Nexus buckle until you receive a positive audible click confirming full engagement.

3. SLACK REMOVAL: Pull the loose end of the webbing at the adjustment point to remove all initial slack from the strap. The circumference is adjustable from 30 to 55 inches to fit your specific hose load and folding method.

4. LIFTING AND CINCHING: Position the shoulder sling over one shoulder on top of your turnout coat or SCBA cylinder. Using proper lifting technique, drive with your legs and stand to transfer the full weight of the bundle to the sling. The cinch loop will automatically tighten and lock the bundle as weight is applied.

5. LOAD CONFIRMATION: Before moving toward the objective, confirm the bundle is balanced, stable, and not shifting. If the load feels uneven or loose, lower it and readjust the strap position to the true center of mass before re-lifting.

6. TRANSPORT TO OBJECTIVE: Proceed to the objective with both hands free for handrails, tools, or forcible entry. The strap will passively maintain tension throughout movement. Use the molded grip handle to make minor adjustments around corners, through doorways, or past obstacles.

7. DEPLOYMENT AT OBJECTIVE: Safely lower the hose bundle to the deck before releasing the strap. Depress both sides of the Nexus buckle simultaneously to release, then pull the strap completely clear of the hose bundle to eliminate any entanglement hazard before flaking out and connecting to the water source.
