Quick Overview

The R&B Intubation Kit Airway Management Roll Bag is a rapid-deployment organizational platform used by ALS providers, anesthesia personnel, and tactical medics to stage, transport, and deploy advanced airway management equipment during endotracheal intubation and direct laryngoscopy.

The kit's organizational architecture enforces readiness discipline through 14 individual slot pockets sized for laryngoscope handles and detached blades, 17 elastic retention loops for OPAs, NPAs, Magill forceps, and bougies, and 4 large bulk pockets for consumables including ETTs, stylets, 10cc syringes, and water-soluble lubricant. An internal protective flap covers hardware during transport to prevent metal-on-metal contact and minimize noise during field deployment. The high-visibility orange fabric enables rapid location within a larger response bag, in low-light conditions, or on a cluttered emergency scene.

Pre-deployment staging is the operational foundation of this system. Blades are arranged in ascending size order, adjuncts are staged by size in elastic loops, and laryngoscope handles are function-checked for battery and bulb operability before the kit is rolled and secured. Standardization at this phase eliminates hesitation at the point of care, which is the primary tactical advantage of a purpose-built intubation roll.

The kit is a component carrier only, not a sterile field, and provides no intrinsic medical capability. All authority for equipment use rests with the operator's training, certification, and medical direction. Post-mission sustainment requires immediate restocking, decontamination per bloodborne pathogen protocols, hardware inspection, and structural integrity checks at the start of each shift or duty cycle.

Field Application Steps

1. ESTABLISH A LOGICAL LAYOUT: Arrange laryngoscope blades in ascending size order in the individual slot pockets, for example Miller 0, 1, 2, 3 followed by Macintosh 1, 2, 3, 4. Place adult and pediatric handles in separate, designated slots to enable immediate visual identification without searching.

2. STAGE AIRWAY ADJUNCTS: Insert OPAs and NPAs into the 17 elastic retention loops ordered from small to large. Use remaining loops to secure Magill forceps or a bougie in a consistent, pre-determined position.

3. LOAD CONSUMABLES: Stock the four large bulk pockets with a range of ETT sizes such as 6.0, 7.0, 7.5, and 8.0, each paired with a stylet. Include a minimum of two 10cc syringes for cuff inflation and water-soluble lubricant, segregating consumables from reusable hardware.

4. CONDUCT A FUNCTION CHECK: Verify that all laryngoscope handles have functional batteries and that all bulbs or light sources are operational. Complete this check before rolling and stowing the kit.

5. ROLL AND SECURE FOR TRANSPORT: Fold the internal protective flap down over all blades and handles to prevent metal-on-metal contact and minimize noise. Roll the kit tightly and secure with the integrated retention strap and buckle for a compressed, transport-ready profile.

6. RETRIEVE AND POSITION ON SCENE: Remove the roll from the primary response bag and place it on a stable, flat surface such as the patient's sternum, the gurney, or the floor next to the patient's head.

7. EXPOSE EQUIPMENT: Release the buckle on the retention strap and unroll the kit fully to display its entire contents in a single motion.

8. UNCOVER HARDWARE: Grasp the internal protective flap and fold it back over the top of the kit, fully exposing all laryngoscope handles and blades.

9. SELECT AND ASSEMBLE: Visually identify and select the appropriate blade and handle for the patient. Assemble the laryngoscope, confirm light function, then select the correct ETT size, stylet, and syringe.

10. EXECUTE POST-INTERVENTION SECURITY: Account for all reusable equipment after the procedure. Place grossly contaminated items in a separate biohazard bag and wipe down hardware if operationally feasible.

11. STOW FOR TRANSPORT: Fold the protective flap down, roll the kit tightly, secure the retention strap, and return the kit to its designated location in the primary response bag.

12. CONDUCT POST-MISSION SUSTAINMENT: Restock the kit to full PAR level immediately after any use. Decontaminate all surfaces per agency bloodborne pathogen protocols, ensure the kit is completely dry before restocking, and inspect hardware including battery life, bulb function, and blade condition before returning the kit to service.
