Quick Overview

The R&B Intubation Module (RB-S400X) is a standardized airway management platform that organizes and protects advanced intubation equipment for rapid deployment by ALS-certified medical professionals during pre-hospital, tactical, and in-hospital airway emergencies.

The RB-S400X functions as a removable sub-load within a primary medical response bag, trauma pack, or crash cart. Its core capability is reducing cognitive load on the operator by presenting all airway tools in a consistent, muscle-memory-based layout upon opening. Constructed from 1000D Cordura nylon with a high-visibility color scheme and a #8 YKK zipper engineered for gloved-hand operation, the module is built for reliable deployment under field conditions. Physical dimensions of 14 inches by 9.5 inches by 3 inches define a standardized footprint that integrates directly into existing medical bag configurations.

The internal organization system is the operational core of the module. Integrated elastic loops anchor primary airway instruments, including laryngoscope handles, Macintosh and Miller blades, endotracheal tubes, stylets, and bougies, in fixed, predictable positions. Slot pockets segregate ancillary supplies such as lubricating jelly, ET tube holders, end-tidal CO2 detectors, and syringes, preventing smaller items from being obscured beneath larger equipment during a critical intervention.

Readiness protocol requires a pre-shift inspection covering exterior integrity, elastic loop condition, zipper function, full inventory verification, and battery-operated device confirmation. All modules within an organization must follow an identical documented load plan to ensure any provider can retrieve any item from any module without hesitation. After patient contact, the module is immediately taken out of service for decontamination and full restock before returning to mission-ready status.

Field Application Steps

1. IDENTIFICATION AND RETRIEVAL: Open the primary medical jump bag and visually locate the R&B module by its high-visibility color designation, for example Red equals Airway. Remove the module and carry it directly to the patient's head.

2. STAGE THE WORKSPACE: Place the closed module on the most stable and clean surface available, positioned directly superior to the patient's head. This positioning minimizes movement distance for the intubating provider during equipment handoff.

3. MODULE DEPLOYMENT: Grasp both YKK zipper pulls and open the module completely along its full three-sided path. Lay the module flat so the interior serves as the pre-organized workspace for the intervention.

4. EQUIPMENT PREPARATION: As the intubating provider calls out required sizes, retrieve the specified items from their designated elastic loops or slot pockets. Test the laryngoscope light, inflate and deflate the ET tube cuff to confirm integrity, insert the stylet, and pass prepared tools to the intubating provider.

5. MAINTAIN MODULE AVAILABILITY: Keep the module open and accessible throughout the intervention. Backup devices and alternate airway equipment must remain immediately reachable until a definitive airway is confirmed secured.

6. POST-INTERVENTION EQUIPMENT ACCOUNTABILITY: Account for all non-disposable equipment at the conclusion of the intervention. Secure all contaminated disposables in a designated biohazard container in accordance with service protocol.

7. DECONTAMINATION: Remove the module from service immediately following patient contact. Remove all contents, clean the interior and exterior with a service-approved disinfectant, and allow the module to air dry completely before any restocking action begins.

8. RESTOCK AND RETURN TO READINESS: Restock the module to the documented standardized load plan. Replace all used disposables, replace or sterilize non-disposables per service protocol, verify expiration dates on all contents, and confirm function of all battery-operated devices before marking the module mission-ready.
