Quick Overview

The R&B Large Urban Rescue Backpack with Pocket Kit A is a mission-configurable equipment transport and organization system used by HEMS crews, USAR teams, tactical medics, and technical rescue operators who require rapid, segregated access to medical supplies in austere, confined, or high-angle environments.

The system is built on a 1000 Denier Cordura Nylon chassis with closed-cell foam padding that protects sensitive supplies including glass vials, syringes, and diagnostic tools during hoisting and patient movement. The full loop-lined main compartment serves as the mounting platform for all internal pouches, and the Pocket Kit A system includes nine small hook-backed pouches and one long pouch that can be organized by intervention type such as Bleeding, Airway, IV Access, and Medications. The Airway Management Flap on the interior lid provides six clear vinyl pockets plus an eighteen-inch slot pocket for immediate visual identification of ETTs and laryngoscope blades.

The suspension system is engineered for technical deployment environments. A dedicated "false back" compartment fully contains the shoulder straps and waist belt, creating a snag-free exterior profile required for hoisting, basket loading, and aircraft stowage. Two removable exterior side pockets provide high-frequency access to PPE, tourniquets, and shears, and can be detached to reduce the pack's profile when moving through restricted openings.

This system ships empty. The operator and their parent organization are solely responsible for stocking the pack within their certified scope of practice and arranging pouches per their organization's protocols, such as a color-coded MARCH sequence.

Field Application Steps

1. CONFIRM MISSION LOADOUT: Review the mission profile and stock all ten Pocket Kit A pouches according to your organization's SOPs. Arrange pouches using a consistent system such as color-coded MARCH protocol to ensure every team member can locate supplies without verbal prompting.

2. LOAD THE AIRWAY MANAGEMENT FLAP: Place airway supplies including ETTs and laryngoscope blades in the interior lid flap, using the six clear vinyl pockets and the eighteen-inch slot pocket for immediate visual identification under field conditions.

3. CONFIGURE FOR MISSION ENVIRONMENT: For high-angle or confined-space ingress, detach both exterior side pockets to minimize snag hazard and reduce the pack's overall profile. Retain detached pockets at staging or transfer them to a teammate.

4. PREPARE FOR HOISTING OR ROPE DEPLOYMENT: Unzip the false back compartment and tuck the shoulder straps and waist belt entirely inside. Secure the zipper fully to create a clean, snag-free exterior before attaching the pack to a rescuer's harness or lowering system per your team's technical rescue protocols.

5. CONFIRM POUCH SECURITY BEFORE DEPLOYMENT: Visually and physically confirm all internal pouches are fully seated on the hook-and-loop interior wall before closing the main compartment, particularly prior to any operation that may invert the pack.

6. ESTABLISH PATIENT-SIDE WORKSPACE: Once at the patient, secure the pack on a stable surface and open the main compartment fully. The open pack functions as an organized supply dashboard with all intervention categories visible and accessible simultaneously.

7. DEPLOY POUCHES BY INTERVENTION PRIORITY: Rip the pre-designated pouch for the identified priority intervention, such as the Bleeding pouch for massive hemorrhage, and place it directly at the point of care. Detach additional pouches sequentially as interventions are required to prevent uncontrolled dump-and-dig searches.

8. CONSOLIDATE AND PREPARE FOR EGRESS: Re-secure all used pouches and equipment to the hook-and-loop interior wall. Close all zippers and confirm the pack is in snag-free configuration before hoisting or egress.

9. DECONTAMINATE POST-MISSION: After any operational use involving patient contact, remove the pack from service immediately. Decontaminate the shell interior, exterior, and all individual pouches per your organization's infectious disease control protocols before returning the system to mission-ready status.

10. RESTOCK AND INSPECT: Replenish all consumed supplies and verify expiration dates on all items. Perform a full visual and tactile inspection of zippers, Cordura fabric, stitching at strap anchor points, hook-and-loop surfaces, and all hardware buckles and slides before returning the pack to active deployment status.
