Quick Overview

The R&B Leather Anti-Sway Strap (Model BL-5425) is a mission-critical radio stabilization component used by firefighters, EMS personnel, and tactical operators to anchor a portable radio case to turnout gear or a duty belt, eliminating the pendulum effect during dynamic operations.

The BL-5425 functions as the third element of a standard three-part radio carrying system, alongside the shoulder strap and radio case. Its approximately 9-inch black leather body connects the radio case to the operator's hip via dual nickel-plated trigger snaps with integrated swivels. This fixed-length, non-adjustable design is optimized for standard hip-worn radio configurations and provides stabilization without restricting core body movement during bending or twisting. The leather construction delivers high resistance to heat, abrasion, and moisture encountered on the fireground.

Deployment readiness depends on verified attachment to structurally sound anchor points. Point A connects to the lower, rear-facing D-ring on the radio case. Point B connects to a dedicated metal D-ring on turnout pants as the primary anchor, or a reinforced heavy-duty belt loop as a secondary option. Standard fabric loops not designed for load-bearing must never be used. Each trigger snap gate must be confirmed fully closed with a tug test before entry.

Pre-use inspection protocols require flexing the leather body to reveal hidden fatigue cracks, actuating both trigger snap gates to confirm positive spring function, and verifying that swivel mechanisms rotate freely. The strap must be removed from service immediately if the leather shows deep cuts, cracking, heat damage, or chemical contamination, or if any trigger snap shows corrosion, deformation, or a weak gate spring.

Field Application Steps

1. IDENTIFY ATTACHMENT POINTS: Locate Point A, the lower rear-facing D-ring on the radio case, and Point B, the structurally sound anchor on the operator's hip. Use the dedicated metal D-ring on turnout pants as the primary anchor, or a reinforced heavy-duty belt loop as the secondary option. Do not use standard fabric loops not designed for load-bearing.

2. CONNECT TO THE RADIO CASE: Depress the gate on one trigger snap and secure it firmly to the radio case D-ring at Point A. Release the gate, confirm it closes completely, and perform a quick firm tug to verify positive lock before proceeding.

3. CONNECT TO OPERATOR GEAR: Route the strap to the designated anchor at Point B on the turnout pants or belt. Depress the gate on the second trigger snap, secure it to the anchor, release the gate, confirm it is fully closed, and perform a second tug test.

4. PERFORM WAIST-BEND CHECK: Bend fully at the waist and confirm the radio remains secured at the hip without swinging forward. This verifies the strap is providing active stabilization in the primary search and suppression posture.

5. PERFORM LOW-CRAWL CHECK: Drop to a squat or low crawl position and confirm the strap does not bind or restrict movement. The strap must allow full lower-body mobility without creating tension on the radio case or anchor point.

6. PERFORM TORSO-ROTATION CHECK: Twist the torso fully left and right. The radio should move with the body. Confirm there is minimal slack but no tension at the limits of rotation. If positioning is incorrect, adjust the main radio shoulder strap length first, then repeat all function checks.
