Quick Overview

The R&B Milwaukee Strap Hose and Accessory Bag is a purpose-built carriage system that enables fire attack crews to consolidate, protect, and rapidly deploy a 75-foot standpipe attack package during high-rise and multi-story structure firefighting operations.

The bag is engineered around the specific demands of vertical fireground logistics. Its 22 oz. reinforced vinyl body resists moisture and contaminants, while the molded "Tuff Bottom" provides a stable, abrasion-resistant base on concrete landings and steel grating. The main compartment measures 17 inches by 10 inches by 12 inches, sized to accept one 75-foot section of 1.5-inch or 1.75-inch hose in an accordion or horseshoe load alongside a full standpipe tool set. A brass drainage grommet at the base allows water from a wet hose to drain freely, preventing accumulation and reducing post-incident weight.

Deployment protocol positions the crew to operate with speed and deliberate tool access. The shoulder strap loops accept an optional rated strap, enabling hands-free carry and three points of contact during stair ascent. At the standpipe outlet, the bag functions as a stable anchor point during initial hose flake-out, with the hose paying out smoothly as the attack crew advances. The Velcro top flap and 2-inch reflective side trim support rapid access and visual identification in low-light, smoke-filled stairwells.

This bag is a carriage system only. It is not rated for hoisting, lowering, or any life-safety application. The webbing handle and shoulder strap loops are not designed to support human weight or serve as an anchor point under vertical load.

Field Application Steps

1. LOAD THE HOSE: Fold 75 feet of 1.5-inch or 1.75-inch attack line into an accordion or horseshoe load. Position the nozzle-end coupling on top for immediate access at the standpipe outlet.

2. PLACE STANDPIPE TOOLS: Set spanner wrenches, a 45-degree elbow, pressure gauge, and door chocks on top of or alongside the hose load. Position each tool for individual removal without disturbing the hose pack.

3. SECURE THE BAG: Close the Velcro top flap and confirm a firm seal. Verify that no straps, couplings, or equipment are dangling that could create snag hazards in a stairwell.

4. SELECT CARRY METHOD FOR TRANSPORT: Use the 2-inch nylon webbing handle for flat-ground movement from apparatus to the building entrance. Attach a rated shoulder strap for multi-flight stair ascent to free both hands for handrails and additional equipment carry.

5. ASCEND TO STAGING FLOOR: Maintain situational awareness during stairwell movement and communicate position and direction to other crews. The bag's compact profile minimizes obstruction in narrow stairwells.

6. POSITION THE BAG AT THE STANDPIPE OUTLET: Place the bag flat on its Tuff Bottom on the staging floor landing, against a wall. Minimize footprint and keep the primary path of travel clear to avoid trip hazards for following personnel.

7. ACCESS TOOLS FOR STANDPIPE CONNECTION: Open the Velcro flap and remove only the tools required for the standpipe connection, specifically wrenches, the elbow, and the pressure gauge. Leave the hose pack undisturbed until connection is established.

8. MAKE THE STANDPIPE CONNECTION: One firefighter connects to the standpipe outlet while a second removes the nozzle and confirms it is securely coupled to the attack line. Verify the connection before charging the line.

9. DEPLOY THE HOSE: Once the standpipe is charged, grasp the nozzle and first fold and advance up the stairs toward the fire floor. The bag functions as an anchor for the initial flake-out, with the remaining hose paying out smoothly from the compartment.

10. CLEAR THE STAIRWELL: Once the hose is fully deployed, move the empty bag to a designated tool drop area. Keep the stairwell clear for following crews and egressing personnel.

11. POST-INCIDENT INSPECTION: After each operational use, inspect the vinyl body for punctures or tears, all seams and stitching for fraying, the Tuff Bottom for cracks or separation, the Velcro strap for debris and closure integrity, and the webbing handle and loops for cuts or degradation. Confirm the brass drainage grommet is present and unobstructed.

12. CLEAN AND RESTORE TO READINESS: Empty the bag completely, scrub with a brush and mild soap-and-water solution, and rinse thoroughly. Hang upside down to air dry completely before reloading, and return the fully loaded, inspected bag to its designated apparatus compartment.
