Quick Overview

The R&B Fabrications #259OR-V Vinyl Intubation Kit is a professional-grade equipment organizer and portable workspace designed for credentialed ALS providers to manage advanced airway tools during high-stress intubation interventions in the field.

The kit is built around five functional systems: 14 individual vinyl slot pockets for laryngoscope handle and blade isolation, 17 elastic loops for airway adjuncts including OPAs and NPAs, four large vinyl pockets for ETTs sized 6.0 to 9.0 and associated consumables, a full-length internal vinyl flap with roll-up strap and buckle for contamination control during transport, and a 29-inch by 14-inch impervious orange vinyl chassis that serves as a designated clean workspace on compromised surfaces. Each component is organized by operational purpose to support rapid, predictable tool selection without searching. High-visibility orange construction enhances tool recognition in low-light conditions.

Deployment protocol follows four sequential steps: stage the rolled kit on the patient's upper chest or adjacent to the head, release the securing strap and unroll to create the clean workspace, verbally confirm ETT size and blade selection with your partner before tool retrieval, and segregate all contaminated equipment into a biohazard receptacle immediately following the intervention. Unused, unopened items may be repacked. Contaminated blades, handles, and opened sterile items are never returned to the kit.

Post-mission sustainment requires full decontamination of all vinyl surfaces using a hospital-grade disinfectant with required contact time, restocking of all consumables with sterile replacements, systematic repacking per standardized layout, laryngoscope function verification, and documentation per agency policy. The vinyl is fluid-resistant but not self-decontaminating, and the soft construction does not protect contents from crushing or puncture. Harsh solvents including acetone must be avoided.

Field Application Steps

1. PRE-SHIFT INSPECTION: Unroll the kit and conduct a full inventory against your agency's standardized load list. Confirm all components are present, correctly sized, and positioned per standardized layout.

2. STERILITY AND EXPIRATION CHECK: Inspect packaging integrity on all sterile items including ETTs and water-soluble lubricant. Remove and replace any item with compromised packaging or a past expiration date.

3. LARYNGOSCOPE FUNCTION CHECK: Assemble each handle and blade combination and confirm the light source is functional and bright. Replace batteries on a scheduled basis, not only upon failure.

4. KIT INTEGRITY CHECK: Inspect the vinyl chassis for tears, cracks, or punctures. Verify elasticity on all 17 loops and confirm the roll-up strap and buckle are fully functional. Remove any compromised kit from service.

5. STAGING: Retrieve the rolled #259OR-V from the primary medical bag and place it on the patient's upper chest or on the ground adjacent to the patient's head. The vinyl chassis creates an immediate barrier between tools and the contaminated operational environment.

6. DEPLOYMENT AND WORKSPACE CREATION: Release the securing strap and unroll the kit fully. The 29-inch by 14-inch surface now functions as your designated clean workspace with all contents displayed in a predictable, organized layout.

7. TOOL SELECTION: Verbally confirm ETT size and blade type and size with your partner before touching any tool. Select the handle and blade from the vinyl slot pockets, then retrieve the primary ETT, stylet, and 10cc syringe from the large pockets.

8. INTERVENTION: Proceed with direct laryngoscopy and endotracheal intubation per your local medical protocol and scope of practice.

9. POST-INTERVENTION RECOVERY: Do not return any contaminated equipment to the kit. Place used blades, handles, and opened sterile items directly into a designated biohazard receptacle. Repack unused, unopened items and roll and secure the kit for transport.

10. POST-MISSION DECONTAMINATION: Remove all contents from the kit. Spray and wipe the entire vinyl surface, interior and exterior, with an agency-approved hospital-grade disinfectant. Allow full required contact time before wiping dry, with close attention paid to seams and crevices.

11. RESTOCK AND REPACK: Replace all used or expired consumables with sterile replacements. Reload the kit per standardized layout to ensure predictability on the next deployment. Verify laryngoscope function before final stowage.

12. DOCUMENTATION: Log kit use and restocking as required by agency policy.
