Quick Overview

The R&B Fabrications PEDI Pack is a dedicated, rapidly deployable pediatric emergency medical bag used by paramedics, EMTs, flight medics, and credentialed institutional providers to streamline access to critical airway, breathing, and circulation intervention tools during high-acuity pediatric calls.

The PEDI Pack is constructed from DuPont Cordura Nylon in the universal pediatric purple, enabling immediate visual identification on a chaotic multi-patient scene. Its dual self-healing zippers deploy in a full clamshell configuration, exposing all airway management tools simultaneously. The main compartment uses sized elastic straps to secure laryngoscope blades in Miller 0 through 2 and Mac 1 through 2, the handle, and multiple ET tube sizes, preventing critical items from shifting during transport.

The gusseted front pocket carries the primary loadout of a child/infant BVM and a 1000cc IV fluid bag. The gusseted design is a deliberate capability feature: it prevents compression of the BVM mask and preserves the seal integrity required for effective ventilation. A standing internal divider with nylon pockets keeps the Broselow tape and PALS reference cards upright and immediately readable during intervention.

The PEDI Pack is an adjunct to a comprehensive primary medical or trauma kit, not a replacement for one. Its physical capacity limit is 1,183 cubic inches, and over-stuffing compromises zipper integrity and organizational structure. The heavy vinyl back panel supports decontamination with agency-approved disinfectants, and the bag must be treated as contaminated following every operational use until cleared per service protocol.

Field Application Steps

1. CONFIRM PATIENT AGE AND RETRIEVE THE PACK: Upon dispatch confirmation of a pediatric patient, retrieve the purple PEDI Pack from its designated vehicle storage location. Carry it to the scene alongside the primary medical bag and oxygen.

2. STAGE THE PACK AT THE PATIENT'S SIDE: Place the PEDI Pack on a flat, stable surface within arm's reach of the airway provider. Position it on the patient's left side to align with right-handed intubation technique.

3. DEPLOY IN CLAMSHELL CONFIGURATION: Unzip both main compartment zippers fully to open the bag completely and expose all airway management tools simultaneously. If immediate ventilatory support is required, retrieve the pediatric BVM from the gusseted front pocket at this step.

4. CONFIRM EQUIPMENT SIZING WITH BROSELOW TAPE: Retrieve the Broselow tape from the standing internal divider pocket and measure the patient to confirm correct equipment sizes. Do not proceed to advanced airway intervention without length-based or formula-based size verification as a secondary confirmation method.

5. SELECT AND ASSEMBLE AIRWAY EQUIPMENT: Select the correct laryngoscope blade, handle, and ET tube size from their designated elastic loops in the main compartment. Assemble and test all equipment, including blade illumination, prior to the procedure.

6. RETRIEVE VASCULAR ACCESS AND FLUID SUPPLIES: If IV access is ordered, retrieve the 1000cc fluid bag from the gusseted front pocket. Retrieve IV start supplies including catheters, tubing, and flush from the main compartment or designated pouches.

7. SECURE THE PACK FOR TRANSPORT: Once the patient is stabilized and packaged for transport, return all non-disposable equipment to their designated locations and close the pack using the zippers. If scene time is critical, secure the pack using the quick-release carry handles and complete zipping en route to the receiving facility.

8. INITIATE DECONTAMINATION PROTOCOL POST-CALL: Immediately following operational use, take the PEDI Pack out of service. Remove all contents, dispose of single-use items per biohazard protocol, and clean all interior and exterior surfaces with agency-approved disinfectant, paying particular attention to the vinyl back panel. Allow the bag to air dry completely before restocking to the standardized loadout.
