Quick Overview

The R&B #250 Portable Oxygen Cylinder Bag is a professional-grade carriage and protection system for standard "D" size medical oxygen cylinders that enables EMS personnel, paramedics, and home health operators to deploy portable oxygen safely during patient assessment, treatment, and transport.

The R&B #250 is constructed from 1000D Cordura Nylon with a main sleeve measuring 23.25 inches by 4.25 inches, engineered specifically for one "D" size cylinder with an attached regulator assembly. A 1/2-inch high-density closed-cell foam Padded Head Compartment zips over the full regulator assembly to absorb impact energy during field movement. An internal hook-and-loop Cylinder Retention Collar cinches around the cylinder neck to prevent sliding if the bag is inverted or carried horizontally. The 3M Scotchlite reflective trim supports operator visibility during low-light deployment.

System security is a primary design function of the R&B #250. The integrated hook-and-loop shoulder strap allows hands-free personal carry across stairs and obstacles, and the same strap wraps around an ambulance cot rail to secure the bag vertically during patient transport. A cylinder assembly that weighs 10 to 15 pounds becomes a serious projectile hazard during sudden stops or collisions if not properly secured to the cot.

The external gusseted side pocket measures 10.5 inches by 4.5 inches by 3 inches and co-locates oxygen delivery devices and airway adjuncts with the cylinder for rapid deployment. Internal elastic loops organize up to seven oropharyngeal airways by size, reducing time-to-treatment at the patient's side. This adjunct organization capability means the operator arrives on scene with a complete, field-ready oxygen delivery system rather than assembling one under pressure.

Field Application Steps

1. CYLINDER INSPECTION: Verify the cylinder is a standard "D" size with adequate pressure. Confirm the regulator is properly seated, perform a leak test, and ensure the cylinder valve is closed before loading.

2. CYLINDER INSERTION: Unzip the main compartment and slide the cylinder into the sleeve valve-end first. Confirm the regulator T-handle remains accessible at the top opening once inserted.

3. SECURE THE RETENTION COLLAR: Wrap the internal hook-and-loop Retention Collar around the cylinder neck below the regulator assembly. Perform an inversion test by tilting the bag to confirm the cylinder does not slide before proceeding.

4. CLOSE THE PADDED HEAD COMPARTMENT: Zip the Padded Head Compartment completely closed over the full regulator assembly. This step is critical and must not be skipped, as the foam hood is the primary protection against regulator damage during carry and transport.

5. STOCK ANCILLARY EQUIPMENT: Load oropharyngeal airways into the internal elastic loops organized by size. Place an NRB mask, nasal cannula, and oxygen tubing into the external side pocket, then zip the pocket closed.

6. CARRY TO SCENE: Place the shoulder strap over one shoulder for hands-free carry. Navigate stairs, doorways, and obstacles with both hands free for patient contact and scene management.

7. PATIENT-SIDE OPERATION: Set the bag upright next to the patient. Unzip the Padded Head Compartment to access the regulator T-handle and initiate oxygen delivery per your service protocol.

8. PREPARE FOR TRANSPORT: Close the cylinder valve if oxygen therapy is paused for movement. Zip the Padded Head Compartment fully closed before moving the bag or loading the patient onto the cot.

9. MOUNT TO AMBULANCE COT: Wrap the hook-and-loop sections of the shoulder strap around the cot side rail. Confirm the bag hangs vertically and does not obstruct patient access or cot mechanics before transport begins.

10. POST-CALL RESET: Remove the bag from the cot after patient transfer. Restock the side pocket to service inventory standards and perform the full Section 5 pre-shift inspection before returning the bag to service.
