Quick Overview

The R&B Rubble Bag 889RD is a professional-grade, reusable vinyl debris containment bag used by fire-rescue crews, disaster response teams, and demolition operators to transport bulk non-hazardous materials from operational areas to designated disposal or staging points.

The 889RD is constructed from 22 oz. reinforced truck vinyl, an impermeable, non-porous material that contains water and particulates while resisting punctures and tears under field conditions. The wide-mouth 26 by 22 inch self-standing opening allows operators to load with both hands free, using shovels, forks, or gloved hands without a second person holding the bag. The continuous-loop webbed carrying straps run under the base of the bag, distributing load across the webbing rather than the vinyl to prevent handle tear-out under extreme weight.

Deployment protocol follows a five-step sequence covering staging, loading, two-person transport, controlled unloading, and full decontamination before stowage. The critical loading discipline is weight-based, not volume-based: operators must stop loading when safe two-person lift capacity is reached, regardless of remaining bag space. The primary field hazard is ergonomic injury to personnel, not bag failure, making continuous weight assessment a non-negotiable protocol element.

Post-use sustainment requires mandatory cleaning after every operational use, as soot and fire byproducts are corrosive and degrade the vinyl and stitching over time. The bag must be bone-dry before stowage to prevent mold and mildew formation. Pre-deployment inspection covers full strap length, stitching attachment points, and interior and exterior vinyl surfaces, with any damaged bag tagged out of service immediately.

Field Application Steps

1. PRE-DEPLOYMENT INSPECTION: Inspect the full length of both webbed straps for frayed webbing, broken stitches, or chemical degradation at attachment points. Unfold the bag completely and examine interior and exterior vinyl surfaces for cuts, punctures, or abrasions, paying close attention to seams and corners. If damage is found, tag the bag "OUT OF SERVICE" and report to the station officer before deployment.

2. STAGING AND POSITIONING: Transport the folded bag to the work area and unfold it on a stable, flat surface. Confirm the bag is standing fully open to receive debris and verify its placement does not obstruct primary or secondary egress routes.

3. LOADING: Load using tools or gloved hands, placing heavier and denser materials at the bottom of the bag to establish a low center of gravity. Assess weight continuously during loading and stop when safe two-person lift capacity is reached. Do not load to volume capacity. Use an interior liner or exercise deliberate placement when loading materials with exposed nails, screws, or sharp edges.

4. TWO-PERSON TRANSPORT: Position one operator on each side of the bag. Verbally confirm readiness with the call "Ready, Lift!" before initiating movement. Each operator grasps the webbed carrying straps, lifts with legs, keeps the back straight, and communicates continuously with their partner to navigate obstacles along the route.

5. CONTROLLED UNLOADING: At the designated disposal point, coordinate with your partner to lower the bag to the ground in a synchronized movement. Tip the bag on its side to empty contents, maintaining active control throughout to prevent uncontrolled dumping of heavy or bulky loads.

6. FIELD DECONTAMINATION: Hose out loose debris from the bag immediately at the scene before transport back to the apparatus. At the station, scrub interior and exterior surfaces with soap and a brush to remove soot and fire byproducts, which are corrosive to the vinyl and stitching.

7. DRYING AND STOWAGE: Hang the bag and allow it to dry completely before stowage. Never fold and store a wet or damp bag, as mold and mildew will form and degrade both the material and the stitching. Once bone-dry, fold the bag flat and return it to its designated apparatus compartment. Do not store heavy or sharp tools such as Halligans or axes on top of the stored bag.
