Quick Overview

A rope bag is a protective, rapidly deployable container used by Fire-Rescue, SAR, Tactical, and Industrial Safety personnel to store and deploy utility or personal escape lines without tangling, contamination, or delay.

The R&B Small Rope Bag (Model 234) is constructed from Cordura Nylon, providing high resistance to abrasion, punctures, and tears across austere environments including collapsed structures, wildland terrain, and industrial sites. The bag protects enclosed rope from dirt, debris, and UV radiation while keeping it organized and ready for immediate deployment. High-visibility colors in Red and Orange support low-light tracking during field operations. The design delivers smooth, kink-free rope payout at the moment it matters most.

Correct loading protocol is the foundation of reliable deployment. Rope must be stuffed randomly into the bag rather than coiled, which eliminates memory loops and prevents tangles during payout. The bitter end is anchored through the bottom grommet using a stopper knot sized larger than the grommet opening. Capacity limits of 100 feet of half-inch rope or 200 feet of three-eighths-inch rope must be observed strictly, as overstuffing creates friction that can cause hazardous deployment failure.

The bag supports two deployment methods: controlled payout, where the operator pulls the working end as they move or lower an object, and bag throw, where the loaded bag is thrown underhand toward a target with the working end already anchored. The bag is not a life-safety rated item. All life-safety dependency rests entirely on the rating, condition, and proper use of the rope stored within it.

Field Application Steps

1. ROPE SELECTION: Confirm the rope's diameter and length fall within bag capacity before loading. Use 80 to 100 feet of half-inch rope or 150 to 200 feet of three-eighths-inch rope. Do not exceed rated capacity.

2. ROPE INSPECTION: Inspect the entire rope length for cuts, frays, glazing, or chemical contamination prior to loading. The bag protects the rope during storage and transport but does not guarantee its condition.

3. ANCHOR THE BITTER END: Feed the bitter end from the inside of the bag out through the bottom number 5 grommet. Tie a stopper knot, such as a Figure-Eight on a Bight or Barrel Knot, on the outside so the knot is larger than the grommet opening.

4. LOAD THE BAG: Stand the bag upright and feed the rope in using your hands. Do not coil the rope. Stuff it randomly, allowing it to fill the space naturally to prevent memory loops and ensure tangle-free payout.

5. SECURE THE LOAD: Cinch the drawstring closure tightly once all rope is loaded. Confirm the working end remains accessible at the top of the bag.

6. TRANSPORT: Carry the bag using the one-inch web handle or clip it to personal gear or a structural anchor using a non-life-safety carabiner.

7. DEPLOYMENT, METHOD A, CONTROLLED PAYOUT: Open the drawstring closure. Grasp the working end and pull steadily as you move away from the anchor point or lower an object. The rope will pay out smoothly from the top of the bag.

8. DEPLOYMENT, METHOD B, BAG THROW: Confirm the working end is securely anchored or held before throwing. Open the drawstring, grasp the web handle, and throw the bag underhand toward the target. The combined weight of the bag and rope carries the line to its destination with rope paying out in flight.
