Quick Overview

The R&B Fabrications 200MC-XXX Supersized Gear Bag is a high-volume, single-cavity duffel bag designed for emergency responders, instructors, and multi-role operators who need to consolidate and transport multiple complete sets of mission-essential PPE in a single, manageable container.

The bag is built on a 1000D Cordura Nylon chassis with high resistance to abrasion, tearing, and punctures, making it capable of withstanding the demands of apparatus bays, training grounds, and extended deployment environments. A full-length, heavy-duty YKK coil zipper provides reliable operation under full load and with gloved hands. The bag is water-resistant against light precipitation and ground moisture, though it is not waterproof. Authorized deployment scenarios include multi-set transport for instructors, multi-role loadouts spanning Structural, Wildland, Technical Rescue, or HazMat disciplines, team equipment caches, and extended base camp operations.

The 2-inch nylon webbing carry system enables three field-selectable configurations: Suitcase Carry for short-distance movement, Shoulder Sling for brief repositioning, and Improvised Backpack Carry for moderate distances over stable terrain with hands-free capability. The backpack configuration is unpadded and unstructured, lacking a waist belt and load lifters, so it is not suitable for running, tactical movement, or difficult terrain. A fully loaded bag carrying two sets of wet turnout gear can exceed 80 pounds, requiring proper lift technique and a two-person lift when available.

Cross-contamination is a critical operational risk with any single-cavity bag. Soiled or contaminated PPE must be sealed in a separate, impermeable liner before placement inside this bag to prevent carcinogen and biohazard transfer to clean equipment.

Field Application Steps

1. PRE-LOAD INSPECTION: Perform a rapid visual and tactile inspection of the bag before loading. Confirm the zipper track is clear of debris, check all webbing for fraying or damaged stitching at anchor points, and verify the interior is dry and free of foreign objects.

2. STAGE ALL EQUIPMENT: Lay out every item to be transported on a clean surface adjacent to the open bag. Identify the heaviest and most rigid items, specifically boots and helmets, before packing begins.

3. LOAD THE FOUNDATION LAYER: Place boots and helmets at each end of the bag to create a stable base. Keep the heaviest items at the bottom of the central cavity.

4. PACK THE CORE LAYER: Fold pants and coats and pack them tightly into the central cavity. Distribute weight evenly from left to right to maintain a balanced load.

5. PLACE TOP-LAYER ITEMS: Load gloves, hoods, and personal effects on top of the core layer. These items are lightest and require fastest access upon arrival.

6. SECURE THE LOAD: Bring the zipper track sides together before engaging the slider, then pull closed in one continuous motion. Do not use the zipper to compress an overstuffed bag. If the bag will not close, remove non-essential items before attempting again.

7. SELECT YOUR CARRY CONFIGURATION: Choose the carry method appropriate to load weight, distance, and operational requirements. Use Suitcase Carry for short distances, Shoulder Sling for brief repositioning only, and Improvised Backpack Carry for moderate hands-free movement over stable terrain.

8. EXECUTE IMPROVISED BACKPACK CARRY (IF APPLICABLE): Stand the bag on its narrow end, squat with your back against the bag, insert both arms through the large webbing loops, and stand by driving upward with your legs, not your back. Adjust the straps and proceed to the staging area.

9. POST-MISSION INSPECTION: After each use, empty the bag completely. Inspect webbing straps for fraying or compromised stitching at anchor points, examine zipper teeth and slider for damage, and check the chassis interior and exterior for punctures, tears, or significant abrasion.

10. CLEAN AND DRY: Remove loose dirt with a stiff brush and clean soiled areas with a cloth, mild soap, and water. For significant contamination, use an approved cleaning solution compatible with synthetic fabrics. Air dry completely in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight before storage. Do not machine wash or machine dry.

11. STORE CORRECTLY: Store the bag empty or lightly packed in a clean, dry location protected from direct UV radiation and extreme temperatures to preserve seam integrity, zipper function, and the water-resistant coating of the Cordura fabric.
