Quick Overview

The R&B Trauma Bag Restocking Kit is a systematic resupply package used by paramedics, EMTs, law enforcement officers, firefighters, SAR technicians, and industrial first responders to restore a depleted or contaminated primary trauma bag to full, mission-ready BLS status following operational use.

The kit is organized across six functional categories: airway management, hemorrhage control, burn and fracture management, patient assessment and medical intervention, minor wound and infection control, and utility tools. Core components include an OPA set, CPR mask, multi-trauma dressing, five 5x9 combi pads, fifteen 4x4 and 2x2 gauze pads, conforming gauze rolls in two sizes, triangular bandages, a burn sheet, cold packs, a penlight with pupil gauge, oral glucose gel, and five pairs of non-sterile gloves. Each component is designated for a specific operational role and must be deployed within the operator's scope of practice and agency protocol.

Restocking follows a four-phase SOP: post-mission decontamination and inventory, systematic restocking using FIFO rotation, functional and readiness checks on the penlight, multi-tool, and CPR mask, and documentation per agency supply management procedures. Critical items not included in this kit, including tourniquets, hemostatic agents, advanced pressure dressings, and chest seals, must be sourced independently and restocked from a separate supply.

Storage and sustainment discipline are required to maintain kit integrity. Components must be kept in a temperature-controlled, dry environment away from direct sunlight, which degrades sterile packaging and adhesive components. Upon receipt, operators should identify the earliest expiration date, mark it on the kit exterior, and establish a recurring inspection schedule aligned to shift start or monthly intervals.

Field Application Steps

1. DON PPE: Put on a fresh pair of non-sterile gloves before handling any kit contents or touching the primary trauma bag. BSI is mandatory and must be established before any other action is taken.

2. DECONTAMINATE THE BAG: Following your service's decontamination protocol, clean the exterior of the primary trauma bag on a clean, designated surface. This step must be completed before the bag is opened for inventory.

3. CONDUCT POST-MISSION INVENTORY: Remove all contents from the bag and compare them against your agency's standard loadout checklist. Document every item that is expended, contaminated, or expired.

4. OPEN THE RESTOCKING KIT: Open the R&B Trauma Bag Restocking Kit and locate the replacement items that correspond to your documented inventory deficits. Do not restock items that are not yet depleted or expired.

5. APPLY FIFO ROTATION: For any item with an expiration date, place new stock behind existing stock so older items are used first. This applies to gauze pads, combi pads, antiseptic preps, antibiotic ointment packets, and glucose gel.

6. RESTOCK BY FUNCTIONAL CATEGORY: Load replacement items into their designated compartments, airway components into the airway module, bleeding control items into the trauma module, and assessment tools into their assigned pouches. Do not consolidate categories.

7. CHECK PENLIGHT FUNCTION: Activate the penlight and confirm the beam is operational. Replace batteries if output is dim or absent before the bag is returned to service.

8. INSPECT THE MULTI-TOOL: Examine the multi-tool for serviceability, confirming all functions open, lock, and close correctly. Flag and replace if any component is damaged or inoperable.

9. VERIFY CPR MASK INTEGRITY: Inflate the CPR mask bladder and confirm it holds air without deflating. A mask that fails to seal is non-serviceable and must be replaced before redeployment.

10. SECURE ALL POUCHES AND ZIPPERS: Verify that every pouch, compartment, and zipper on the primary bag is fully closed and secured. An unsecured bag is not field-ready.

11. FLAG MISSING CRITICAL ITEMS: Identify any protocol-required items not covered by this kit, including tourniquets, hemostatic gauze, chest seals, and advanced pressure dressings. Source these from a separate supply before the bag is cleared for deployment.

12. DOCUMENT THE RESTOCK: Log the restock per your service's supply management procedures. Secure any remaining restocking kit contents for future use and mark the kit's earliest expiration date on its exterior.
