Quick Overview

A tactical rifle case is a padded, soft-shell transport system used by law enforcement, military personnel, and trained operators to securely move a primary weapon system and ancillary equipment to and from ranges, duty stations, and operational areas via vehicle.

The Rothco 36-Inch Tactical Rifle Case is built around a main compartment measuring 36 by 12 by 3 inches, lined with 3/4-inch high-density foam that absorbs shock, protects the weapon's finish, and safeguards optic zero during transport. An internal stock sleeve anchors the firearm longitudinally, while two hook-and-loop straps secure the receiver and handguard against lateral and vertical movement. The double-locking U-zipper opens the case completely flat, enabling it to serve as a padded field work surface for inspection, adjustment, or maintenance.

External equipment carriage is handled through a large accessory pocket with internal slit pockets for a sidearm and pistol magazines, plus three removable MOLLE pouches on PALS webbing for rifle magazines, medical supplies, or tools. Zipper sliders on both the main compartment and accessory pocket accept user-provided padlocks, enabling compliant transport for air travel and applicable state transport laws. Both carry handles and shoulder strap D-rings provide flexible handling options across transport environments.

Operators must understand this is a Level I soft case. It provides concealment and impact protection, not ballistic protection and not a substitute for a rated safe during unattended storage. The 600D polyester shell is water-resistant, not waterproof, and the fabric can be defeated with a common edged tool.

Field Application Steps

1. PRE-DEPLOYMENT INSPECTION: Conduct a full visual and tactile inspection of the case before every use. Verify all zipper teeth are intact and functional, seams are undamaged, and handles show no fraying.

2. CONFIGURE MOLLE POUCHES: Confirm all three external MOLLE pouches are securely woven onto the PALS webbing. Configure each pouch to hold two rifle magazines or adjust to mission requirements, and select the appropriate closure type, bungee for rapid access, hook-and-loop or quick-release for retention-priority loads.

3. VERIFY WEAPON DIMENSIONS AND SAFETY STATUS: Measure the primary weapon's overall length in its most compact configuration and confirm it does not exceed 36 inches. Verify the firearm is cleared and placed on safe per your agency's policy before stowing.

4. STOW THE PRIMARY WEAPON SYSTEM: Place the case on a flat surface, unzip the main compartment completely, and lay it open flat. Insert the rifle stock firmly and completely into the internal stock sleeve, lay the weapon flat onto the padded lining, and secure both hook-and-loop straps tightly over the receiver and handguard. Confirm zero movement when the case is shaken lightly.

5. STOW ANCILLARY EQUIPMENT: Verify the sidearm is cleared and on safe per your agency's policy. Place the sidearm and pistol magazines into the internal slit pockets of the accessory pocket to prevent shifting, place the cleaning kit and loose items into the main body of the accessory pocket, and load rifle magazines into the external MOLLE pouches.

6. FINAL SECURING AND LOCK COMPLIANCE: Close all zippers fully on both the main compartment and the accessory pocket. If required by applicable law or agency policy, thread user-provided padlocks through the zipper sliders on both compartments before movement.

7. TRANSPORT: Move the case using the dual wrap-around carry handles for a consolidated two-hand grip, or attach a user-provided shoulder strap to the D-rings for hands-free transport over short distances.

8. POST-USE CLEANING AND INSPECTION: Fully empty the case after each deployment. Invert and shake to clear dirt, brass, and debris, then wipe interior and exterior with a damp cloth. Ensure the case is 100 percent dry before stowing any firearm inside to prevent rust and corrosion.
