1. PRE-MISSION INSPECTION: Visually inspect all seams and stitching for fraying, paying particular attention to handle and D-ring attachment points. Operate the main compartment zipper along its full length to confirm smooth, snag-free function, and actuate shoulder strap clips and the adjustment buckle to verify they engage and release correctly.
2. CANVAS AND HARDWARE INSPECTION: Inspect the canvas body for significant tears or punctures that could compromise structural integrity under load. Confirm all brass-plated clips and D-rings are undamaged and that clips fully engage before any load is applied.
3. LOAD PLANNING AND SEGREGATION: Group all items by function before packing. Use packing cubes to compartmentalize gear within the main compartment and prevent shifting during transit.
4. WATERPROOF SENSITIVE EQUIPMENT: Place all moisture-sensitive items, including electronics, documents, and medical supplies, inside waterproof dry bags before loading them into the main compartment. The canvas body will not protect these items during prolonged rain exposure.
5. LOAD DISTRIBUTION: Place the heaviest and bulkiest items at the bottom center of the main compartment to establish a stable base. Lighter and more frequently needed items should be loaded on top for easier access during operations.
6. STAGE QUICK-ACCESS GEAR: Place high-frequency items such as gloves, a poncho, and water in the external open-top side pockets. Do not store sensitive, valuable, or mission-critical items in these pockets, as the open-top design provides zero security.
7. CLOSE AND SECURE FOR MOVEMENT: Close the main compartment zipper fully before moving the bag. Confirm all hardware connections are engaged and no loose straps or materials create a snagging hazard.
8. VEHICLE LOADING: Use the dual webbing carry handles for heavy lifting into and out of the vehicle. Lift with legs, not the back, and use a two-person lift when load weight makes solo lifting a strain risk.
9. VEHICLE STOWAGE: Position the bag low in the vehicle cargo area and secure it to prevent it from becoming a projectile during sudden stops or vehicle maneuvers.
10. TRANSIT TO STAGING POINT: Attach and adjust the shoulder strap for movement from the vehicle to the indoor staging point. Adjust the strap so the bag sits at or above the hip to minimize sway and reduce shoulder fatigue. Do not use the shoulder strap for extended foot movement with a heavy load, as this creates significant risk of muscle strain and nerve impingement.
11. POST-MISSION INSPECTION AND CLEANING: Completely empty the bag and shake out all debris from the main compartment and side pockets. Inspect for new tears, failed seams, or broken hardware incurred during the operation, then spot clean the canvas with a stiff brush for dried dirt or a damp cloth with mild soap for soiling.
12. DRYING AND STORAGE: Air dry the bag completely in a shaded, well-ventilated area before storage. Do not machine wash or machine dry. Store in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight, and confirm the bag is 100% dry before stowing to prevent mildew and mold growth.
