Quick Overview

A concealed carry bag is a dedicated off-body transport and deployment system for a compact handgun and mission-essential support equipment, used by armed civilians, law enforcement, and security professionals when on-body carry is impractical.

The Rothco Concealed Carry Bag is built around a 9.5" x 5.5" rear CCW compartment positioned on the body-facing side, lined with a loop fastener field for securing a hook-backed holster. This design keeps the trigger guard covered, orients the firearm for a consistent draw stroke, and maintains the weapon in a dedicated zone completely separated from all other carried equipment. The compartment is sized for compact and sub-compact pistols, and operators should verify fit with an unloaded firearm before operational deployment.

Beyond the weapon interface, the bag provides layered load carriage across multiple compartments. The main compartment uses a U-shaped dual-zippered flap for unobstructed access, where an IFAK, spare ammunition, and electronics can be staged by priority. A large side pouch with a quick-release buckle supports rapid deployment of a tourniquet or gloves, and two rows of exterior MOLLE webbing allow mission-specific pouch attachment for expanded capability.

Off-body carry introduces specific readiness requirements that operators must train against. Draw speed from a zippered compartment is inherently slower than a waist-mounted holster, and the bag must remain under constant positive control to prevent unauthorized firearm access. Dry-practice drills using the exact draw sequence, stabilize with non-dominant hand, open zipper with dominant hand, sweep clear, establish grip, and draw to presentation, must be repeated until the action is smooth and repeatable under simulated stress before any live-fire use.

Field Application Steps

1. ACQUIRE A COMPATIBLE HOLSTER: Select a hook-backed holster specifically fitted to your firearm model. The holster must provide complete, positive coverage of the trigger guard with no gaps or partial exposure.

2. MOUNT THE HOLSTER TO THE CCW COMPARTMENT: Unzip the rear CCW compartment completely and firmly press the holster's hook surface onto the loop fastener field. Position the holster at the angle that produces a natural, unobstructed draw stroke for your intended carry side.

3. VERIFY TRIGGER GUARD COVERAGE AND FIT: Confirm the holster fully covers the trigger guard with no clearance for a zipper pull or external object to contact the trigger. Insert an unloaded firearm, test the fit, and adjust holster position as needed before proceeding.

4. STAGE EQUIPMENT BY ACCESS PRIORITY: Load the main compartment with the IFAK and critical medical supplies in the top layer for immediate access. Place spare magazines in the side MOLLE pouch or a dedicated front zippered pocket, and position less critical support gear at the bottom of the main compartment.

5. BALANCE THE LOAD: Distribute weight evenly across compartments to prevent excessive shifting during movement. Uneven loading degrades carry stability and can slow your draw stroke under stress.

6. CONFIGURE THE SHOULDER STRAP FOR YOUR DRAW SIDE: Attach and adjust the shoulder strap for your intended carry configuration. For a right-handed draw, crossbody carry on the left hip is the standard position, which places the CCW compartment for a right-hand cross-draw.

7. CONDUCT DRY-PRACTICE DRAW DRILLS: In a confirmed safe area with all ammunition removed from the bag and firearm, practice the full draw sequence: stabilize the bag with your non-dominant hand, grasp the zipper pull with your dominant hand, decisively open the CCW compartment, sweep the zipper fully clear, establish a full firing grip, and draw cleanly to presentation.

8. REPEAT UNTIL CONSISTENT UNDER SIMULATED STRESS: Continue dry-practice repetitions until every stage of the draw is smooth, consistent, and automatic. Do not transition to live-fire practice until mastery is confirmed in the dry environment.

9. LOAD THE FIREARM PER APPLICABLE GUIDELINES: Once fit, positioning, and draw stroke are confirmed through dry practice, load the firearm in accordance with your agency or jurisdictional requirements and re-holster with full trigger guard coverage confirmed.

10. CONDUCT PRE-DEPLOYMENT INSPECTION: Before each use, actuate all zippers for snag-free operation, inspect all webbing and stitching at load-bearing points, check all buckles and D-rings for cracks, confirm the holster is firmly secured to the loop field, and verify that all designated equipment is present and correctly staged.
