Field Application Steps

  1. Orient the topographic map to magnetic north using the compass.
  2. Place the compass on the map, aligning its edge between your position and destination to find the required bearing.
  3. Holding the compass level, turn your body until the north arrow aligns with the dial's 'N' at the correct bearing.
  4. Sight a distant landmark along this bearing and navigate to it.
  5. Repeat the process from the landmark, utilizing pace count to track distance traveled.
