Quick Overview

The Rothco MOLLE Double M16 Pouch is a dual-magazine carrier used by tactical operators, law enforcement personnel, and trained civilians to secure two standard 30-round M4/M16 magazines on MOLLE-compatible load-bearing equipment with high-retention, rattle-free deployment capability.

The pouch is engineered around a system of internal hard plastic inserts that serve two critical functions: eliminating magazine rattle during movement and maintaining pouch shape when empty, which enables one-handed re-indexing of a partially expended magazine without breaking visual contact with the threat area. A fabric internal divider separates the two compartments, preventing magazine-on-magazine abrasion and reducing metallic noise signature in field conditions. The 600D polyester body provides resistance to abrasion, impact, and environmental moisture across dense terrain, airborne, and maritime environments.

Retention is managed through a dual-closure system combining a hook-and-loop primary flap for speed of access and a metal snap secondary closure for high-security retention during dynamic movement. Operators select the appropriate retention level based on operational tempo, engaging both closures when equipment loss is a primary concern. The hook-and-loop closure produces an audible signature that must be weighed as a tactical trade-off in stealth environments.

Mounting is executed via two rear MOLLE straps that require proper over-under weaving through a standard PALS grid occupying a two-column, three-row section. A correctly mounted pouch has zero vertical or horizontal play. Failure to weave the straps correctly, rather than simply tucking them, is identified as the leading cause of equipment failure and pouch loss during field use.

Field Application Steps

1. SELECT MOUNT LOCATION: Identify a two-column, three-row section of PALS webbing on your vest, belt, or pack that allows an unimpeded draw stroke with your support hand.

2. PREPARE MOLLE STRAPS: Release the snap terminals at the bottom of both rear MOLLE straps before beginning the weave.

3. WEAVE FIRST STRAP: Feed the strap down through the top PALS loop on your platform, then back up through the first PALS loop on the rear of the pouch. Continue the over-under weave until the strap is fully utilized, then route the end through the final PALS loop and snap the terminal firmly.

4. WEAVE SECOND STRAP: Repeat the over-under weave process for the second strap at equal tension. Confirm the mounted pouch has zero vertical or horizontal play before loading.

5. LOAD MAGAZINES: Insert two standard 30-round M4/M16 magazines with rounds facing down and feed lips up. Confirm positive friction retention from the internal hard inserts in both compartments.

6. SET RETENTION LEVEL: Close the hook-and-loop flap only for standard or fast-access use. Engage both the hook-and-loop flap and the metal snap for high-threat environments or dynamic movement where equipment loss is a primary concern.

7. EXECUTE SPEED RELOAD ACCESS: With the support hand, grasp the bottom edge of the pouch flap. In a single aggressive upward motion, break the hook-and-loop seal and disengage the metal snap if engaged, then establish a positive grip on the magazine and extract it vertically.

8. RE-INDEX PARTIALLY EXPENDED MAGAZINE: After seating a fresh magazine in the weapon, retain the partially expended magazine in the support hand. Without shifting eyes from the threat area, guide the top of the magazine to the pouch opening and push it down until fully seated. The hard inserts prevent pouch collapse during this process.

9. RE-SECURE CLOSURE: Close the flap to the retention level appropriate to current operational tempo before returning full attention to the engagement.
