Quick Overview

The Rothco Folding Camp Cot is a rapidly deployable, elevated sleeping platform used by field personnel, emergency managers, and preparedness operators to maintain rest and recovery readiness in non-permanent environments across tactical, shelter, and contingency applications.

The cot's tubular aluminum frame elevates the user approximately 10 inches off the ground, achieving three operational objectives: thermal regulation through dead-air space that reduces conductive heat loss, environmental protection from ground moisture and insects, and improved hygiene by isolating the user from dirt and ground contaminants. The 600 Denier polyester/nylon sleeping deck with PVC coating provides a load-bearing surface rated to 264 lbs static capacity, with abrasion and moisture resistance suited to field conditions.

Deployment protocol requires site selection on a level surface within a cleared 75-inch by 24-inch footprint, followed by frame extension, perpendicular leg positioning, and full engagement of all locking mechanisms before the unit bears any load. The critical step is confirming each locking joint is rigid, with audible or tactile confirmation present, before rotating the cot upright and applying a stability check to all corners and the center of the deck.

Pre-deployment inspection is a mandatory readiness protocol covering frame integrity, sleeping deck condition, and function verification of all locking mechanisms. Any cot presenting a bent frame, cracked joints, or torn fabric is classified as non-mission-capable and must be tagged and removed from service immediately.

Field Application Steps

1. CONDUCT PRE-DEPLOYMENT INSPECTION: Visually inspect all aluminum tubes for cracks, fractures, or significant bending. Check all rivets, hinge points, and the sleeping deck fabric for rips, tears, or separated seams before proceeding.

2. SELECT AND PREPARE THE SITE: Identify a level surface and clear the 75-inch by 24-inch deployment footprint of all sharp objects, debris, and obstructions. Confirm adequate clearance around the cot for safe ingress and egress.

3. EXTEND THE FRAME: Place the folded cot flat on the ground. Grasp the outer frame rails and pull them apart in an accordion-like motion until the cot is fully extended lengthwise.

4. ROTATE AND IDENTIFY LEG ASSEMBLIES: Rotate the extended cot onto its side. Identify all leg assemblies and their associated locking mechanisms before proceeding to leg deployment.

5. DEPLOY AND LOCK ALL LEGS: Extend each leg until it is perpendicular to the main frame. Engage every locking mechanism by pushing down on the leg assembly center or sliding the locking collar as applicable. Confirm each leg is rigid with no free movement. Audible click or positive tactile feedback must be present.

6. ROTATE TO DEPLOYED POSITION: Carefully rotate the cot upright to its fully deployed position. Do not apply body weight until all legs are confirmed locked and stable.

7. VERIFY STRUCTURAL STABILITY: Apply firm, steady downward pressure to the center and all four corners of the sleeping deck. The cot must not wobble or shift. If movement is detected, re-inspect and re-engage all locking mechanisms before use.

8. CONDUCT POST-MISSION SUSTAINMENT: After use, clean the frame and sleeping deck with a damp cloth and mild soap. Allow the cot to dry 100 percent before storage. Store folded in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
