Quick Overview

The Rothco LACV Side Armor Pouch Set is a MOLLE-compatible lateral armor carrier system used by law enforcement, military operators, and security professionals to add side plate protection to existing plate carriers when flanking threats are probable.

The LACV Side Armor Pouch Set addresses the coverage gap inherent in minimalist plate carriers by mounting two independent pouches directly to the cummerbund without requiring a complete change of the primary carrier system. Each pouch is constructed from 600D Polyester with a fold-over hook-and-loop closure that retains the armor plate through dynamic movement, including falls and inverted positions. The pouches are carriers only and provide zero ballistic protection on their own. Operator survivability is entirely dependent on the hard armor plates inserted within them.

Integration is achieved through four 6-inch vertical attachment straps, two per pouch, woven through the carrier's MOLLE/PALS webbing to create a stable, non-shifting mounting platform. Correct deployment positions each pouch directly under the armpit, centered over the rib cage, with the plate's strike face oriented outward. Plates must conform to the pouch's 5.75" x 5.75" capacity. Undersized plates compromise retention and expose vital areas, while oversized plates prevent proper closure.

Readiness sustainment requires pre-deployment inspection of all stitching, hook-and-loop adhesion, and attachment strap integrity at stress points. Cleaning protocol limits operators to a stiff brush for debris removal or a damp cloth with mild soap for heavier soiling. Machine washing and machine drying are prohibited, as both degrade the 600D Polyester construction and compromise stitching integrity.

Field Application Steps

1. ACQUIRE AND VERIFY ARMOR PLATES: Obtain two hard armor plates sized to the pouch specification of 5.75" x 5.75". Confirm plates are neither oversized, which prevents closure, nor undersized, which allows shifting and exposes vital areas.

2. INSERT PLATES WITH CORRECT STRIKE FACE ORIENTATION: Open each fold-over hook-and-loop flap and identify the strike face per the plate manufacturer's instructions. Insert each plate with the strike face oriented outward, away from the operator's body, and seat it firmly at the bottom of the pouch.

3. CLOSE AND VERIFY FLAP RETENTION: Close the fold-over flap and confirm full hook-and-loop purchase with no bulging or gaps. The plate must be fully retained before mounting the pouch to the carrier.

4. DON CARRIER AND ESTABLISH CORRECT POUCH POSITION: Don the plate carrier and adjust the cummerbund for proper fit. Position each pouch directly under the armpit, centered over the rib cage, with the top of the pouch set as high as possible without impeding natural arm movement.

5. CONFIRM NO INTERFERENCE WITH CRITICAL GEAR ACCESS: Before securing, temporarily hold each pouch in position and verify that arm swing, weapon shouldering, and access to sidearm and magazines are all unobstructed.

6. WEAVE ATTACHMENT STRAPS THROUGH MOLLE/PALS WEBBING: Thread the two 6-inch attachment straps per pouch through the cummerbund's MOLLE/PALS webbing. Pass each strap under the first row of webbing, back through the pouch's webbing, and continue until the full strap length is utilized.

7. TENSION AND SECURE ALL STRAPS: Pull each strap tight at every pass to eliminate all slack and play. Secure the snap or terminal end and repeat the process on the opposite side with symmetrical placement.

8. EXECUTE TUG TEST: Aggressively pull each pouch in all directions including up, down, forward, and back. Minimal to no independent movement is the acceptable standard. Any significant shift requires strap re-threading and re-tensioning.

9. EXECUTE MOBILITY AND FUNCTION CHECK: Rotate the torso, swing both arms, simulate drawing a pistol and magazines, and shoulder a rifle. Verify no unacceptable mobility hindrance, new snag hazards, or unbalanced weight causing the carrier to list to either side.
