Quick Overview

The Rothco LACV Side Radio Pouch Set is a dedicated hook-and-loop carriage system designed for operators who need secure, low-profile, and rapidly reconfigurable placement of one or two handheld radios directly on the Rothco Lightweight Armor Carrier Vest cummerbund.

The pouch chassis is constructed from 600D polyester, providing abrasion, tear, and moisture resistance to protect electronic equipment under field conditions. A metal-reinforced drainage grommet at the base allows immediate water evacuation, preventing moisture buildup that could compromise radio function. The rear hook panel measures 6 inches by 2.5 inches and mates directly with the loop-faced LACV cummerbund surface, creating a shear-resistant bond rated for dynamic movement. A secondary 2-inch by 2-inch frontal hook field accommodates ID patches for battlefield identification and situational awareness.

Retention is managed through an elastic cord system that accommodates varying radio sizes while applying consistent downward pressure to prevent dislodgement. An adjustable cord lock with pull tab enables precise tension calibration and allows one-handed radio extraction and re-insertion, including when the operator is wearing gloves. This retention architecture supports immediate access to controls without requiring two-handed operation or removal of the entire pouch from the vest.

The direct hook-and-loop attachment method provides a meaningful capability advantage over traditional MOLLE/PALS configurations by eliminating weave-through setup time and enabling rapid positional adjustment based on mission requirements. These pouches are not compatible with standard MOLLE/PALS webbing without an adapter. Hook-and-loop adhesion is degraded by mud, dirt, snow, and lint, requiring surface inspection and cleaning as part of every pre-operational readiness protocol.

Field Application Steps

1. VEST PREPARATION: Open the LACV front flap to fully expose the exterior loop field of the side cummerbund. Inspect the surface and remove any dirt, mud, or debris that could degrade hook-and-loop adhesion before mounting.

2. POUCH PLACEMENT AND SIZING: Identify the optimal position on the support-side cummerbund, confirming that placement will not obstruct arm movement, weapon draw, or magazine access. Temporarily insert the target radio to assess fit and verify that the antenna, PTT button, and volume knobs are correctly oriented and accessible.

3. POUCH MOUNTING: Align the rear hook panel against the selected location on the vest's loop field. Apply firm, even pressure across the full 6-inch by 2.5-inch panel surface, working from one edge to the other to ensure complete hook-and-loop engagement.

4. RADIO INSERTION AND RETENTION ADJUSTMENT: Insert the radio into the pouch and route the elastic retention cord to avoid contact with or accidental activation of any controls. Adjust cord tension using the cord lock until the radio is held with zero vertical or lateral play.

5. FUNCTION CHECK AND STRESS TEST: Don the carrier and execute mission-relevant movements including jogging, prone positioning, and kneeling. Verify that the pouch does not shift under load. Practice one-handed radio extraction and re-insertion multiple times and adjust cord tension as needed to confirm reliable retention and access.

6. DUAL POUCH CONFIGURATION (AS REQUIRED): If deploying a second pouch for a secondary radio, repeat Steps 1 through 5 on the opposite side cummerbund. Confirm balanced load distribution and verify that access to all other essential equipment remains unobstructed.
