Quick Overview

A MOLLE/PALS compatible sidearm holster is a low-profile, soft-shell carriage system that enables military operators, law enforcement personnel, and tactical professionals to mount a secondary sidearm directly to plate carrier PALS webbing, battle belts, or assault packs in environments where belt-mounted or drop-leg holsters are impractical.

This holster system is purpose-built for three operational contexts: vehicle operations, secondary weapon carriage, and constrained environments. Mounting to a plate carrier chest panel keeps the sidearm accessible while seated, where a hip holster would be obstructed by a seat or seatbelt. The low-profile design reduces overall silhouette, minimizing interference when moving through interior structures or dense vegetation. It is designed for standard, compact, and mid-size semi-automatic pistols and is not compatible with most revolvers, sub-compact pistols, or pistols equipped with large weapon lights that prevent the wrap-around panels from closing securely.

The retention system uses two independent layers: an internal hook and loop strap that applies friction-based retention directly against the slide or frame, and an external snap closure strap that routes over the rear of the grip and must be defeated by the operator's thumb as the first step in the draw sequence. The wrap-around panels fold around the frame, slide, and trigger guard to create a custom fit, with the main hook and loop fields securing the panels under tension. Full trigger guard coverage is the operator's direct responsibility and must be confirmed during every configuration and inspection.

This system is not a substitute for a rigid, active-retention Level II or Level III duty holster. It is not designed to resist active weapon grab attempts and is not suitable for open carry in environments where physical contact with unknown subjects is anticipated. Pre-deployment inspection of all stitching, hook and loop surfaces, and snap closures is mandatory before every use.

Field Application Steps

1. CLEAR AND CONFIRM THE FIREARM: Remove all ammunition from the firearm and visually and physically confirm the chamber is empty. This step is non-negotiable and must be completed before any fitting, adjustment, or configuration work begins.

2. OPEN AND PREPARE THE HOLSTER: Unfasten all hook and loop fields and snaps. Lay the holster completely flat with the interior facing up so both wrap-around panels are fully accessible.

3. POSITION THE FIREARM: Place the unloaded pistol onto the open holster body. Orient the firearm to your desired cant angle and ride height before proceeding to any retention adjustment.

4. SET INTERNAL RETENTION: Adjust the internal hook and loop strap snugly over the weapon's slide. This layer provides friction-based stability and prevents internal movement of the firearm within the holster body.

5. MOLD AND CLOSE THE WRAP-AROUND PANELS: Fold both wrap-around panels firmly over the pistol frame, slide, and trigger guard. Confirm that one panel fully covers the entire trigger guard with no gap, then press the main hook and loop fields together to secure the panels under tension.

6. SET EXTERNAL RETENTION: Adjust the external snap closure strap over the grip or tang with positive tension and fasten the snap. Test the snap closure multiple times to confirm reliable engagement before proceeding.

7. CONDUCT HOLSTER FUNCTION CHECK: Insert the unloaded pistol and secure all retention layers. Perform a deliberate draw stroke, confirming that the draw is repeatable and consistent. Readjust internal retention, panel molding, or external strap tension as needed, and repeat until the draw is reliable. Practice the draw sequence to build muscle memory before operational deployment.

8. SELECT MOLLE MOUNTING LOCATION: Identify the desired mounting position on the PALS webbing of your plate carrier, battle belt, or assault pack. Account for sling routing, magazine placement, and seated accessibility when selecting position.

9. WEAVE THE MOLLE STRAPS: Starting from the top of the holster, feed both rear MOLLE straps down through the first available row of PALS webbing on the platform.

10. INTERLEAVE THROUGH ADDITIONAL ROWS: Route the straps back through the webbing channels on the rear of the holster, then down through the next row on the platform. Continue alternating between the holster rear and platform rows until all available PALS webbing rows are used.

11. SECURE THE MOLLE STRAP SNAP CLOSURES: Fasten the snap closure located at the bottom of each MOLLE strap. These closures anchor the straps and prevent backing out under load or during dynamic movement.

12. CONDUCT PLATFORM INTEGRATION INSPECTION: Vigorously pull and twist the mounted holster in multiple directions. The holster must not shift, slide, or detach under load. If any movement is detected, the MOLLE straps were not woven correctly. Unmount the holster and repeat the weaving procedure from the beginning.
