Quick Overview

The Rothco Medical Rescue Response Bag is a mid-sized, rapidly deployable Basic Life Support carriage system used by professional responders and prepared civilians to manage trauma and medical emergencies in vehicle, facility, field, and home environments.

The bag bridges the capability gap between a small individual first aid kit and a large ALS jump bag. Its 15" x 9" x 7" chassis is optimized for one to two casualties without the bulk of a full EMS loadout. Built from 1000 Denier Polyester, the bag resists abrasion, punctures, and moisture during transport in austere conditions. A reflective Star of Life emblem provides immediate visual identification as a medical asset in low-light or chaotic environments.

The bag's compartment architecture is designed for sequenced intervention under pressure. Two open-top front pockets provide instant, one-handed access to immediate action items such as nitrile gloves and tourniquets without manipulating any closure. The three-section central compartment supports systematic loadout organization across airway, bleeding control, and dressings. Elastic tool loops on the underside flap pocket retain critical instruments including shears, penlights, and airway adjuncts so they remain staged and retrievable during a deployment.

This is an empty equipment carriage system. The operator is solely responsible for stocking it with supplies appropriate to their certified level of training. Stocking the bag with advanced or invasive devices without the requisite training, certification, and medical direction is negligent and dangerous. Inspection must be performed monthly and after every deployment, with consumables rotated within six months of expiration.

Field Application Steps

1. ENSURE SCENE SAFETY AND APPROACH: Confirm the scene is safe before moving toward the casualty. Grab the bag by the fixed Top Carry Handle for rapid, short-distance movement to the point of injury.

2. STAGE THE BAG: Place the bag on the ground on the casualty's non-injured side to provide room to work. Orient the front pockets toward you and position the bag upwind of the wound if conditions allow.

3. DON PPE AND APPLY TOURNIQUET: Without opening the main compartment, retrieve nitrile gloves from one open-top front pocket and don them immediately. Retrieve the staged tourniquet from the other open-top front pocket, apply it high and tight to the injured limb, and note the time of application.

4. OPEN THE MAIN COMPARTMENT: Release the Quick-Release Buckle on the main flap, then pull the flap firmly to separate the Hook and Loop Strips. This exposes the central compartment and the underside flap pocket simultaneously.

5. RETRIEVE TRAUMA SHEARS: Access the Elastic Tool Loops on the flap's underside and retrieve trauma shears. Use them to expose the injury site by cutting away clothing or material as needed.

6. ACCESS PRIMARY TREATMENT SUPPLIES: Open the 3-Section Central Compartment and retrieve wound packing gauze and pressure dressings. Work through the compartment sections in sequence: airway and breathing, bleeding control, then dressings and bandages.

7. ACCESS SECONDARY SUPPLIES IF REQUIRED: Open a Zippered Side Pocket to retrieve mission-specific or supplemental items such as a survival blanket, secondary dressings, diagnostic tools, or additional PPE.

8. REPACK AND SECURE FOR EVACUATION: After the casualty is stabilized, repack any unused but opened supplies into their designated compartments. Secure the main flap with Hook and Loop Strips for temporary closure, or engage the Quick-Release Buckle fully if the casualty is being moved.

9. CARRY HANDS-FREE DURING EVACUATION: Transfer carry to the adjustable Shoulder Strap to keep both hands free for assisting with casualty movement, lift, or carry. Adjust the strap for a snug fit to prevent the bag from swinging during movement.

10. CONDUCT POST-DEPLOYMENT INSPECTION AND RESTOCK: After every operational use, fully inventory all compartments against your established loadout list. Replace all consumed or compromised supplies, and clean and sterilize any reusable instruments such as shears or forceps before returning them to the bag. Do not assume any items remain without a physical check.
