Quick Overview

Rothco Military Mechanic's Gloves are a high-dexterity hand protection system designed for operators conducting vehicle maintenance, weapons handling, and general utility tasks where abrasion resistance and tactile sensitivity must be maintained simultaneously.

The gloves are constructed with a synthetic leather palm that provides consistent grip on metal, plastic, and composite surfaces even when contaminated with light oils. A poly/spandex stretch shell on the back manages heat and moisture during extended wear, while an elastic cuff with hook-and-loop closure creates a debris seal at the wrist. Reinforced thumb and index finger zones resist premature wear in high-friction contact points, and integrated foam padding in the palms and fingers reduces hand fatigue during prolonged tool use.

Operators must understand the defined scope of protection before deployment. These gloves are rated for abrasion resistance only. They provide no protection against significant cuts, punctures, electrical hazards, or chemical immersion, and their synthetic materials will melt and adhere to skin if exposed to open flame or high-temperature surfaces. They are not suitable for welding, firefighting, or any energized electrical work.

Readiness sustainment requires hand washing with mild soap and cool water, with no machine washing or drying permitted. Gloves must be removed from service immediately upon any hole or tear exposing skin, seam failure, closure degradation, or saturation with hazardous material that cannot be safely decontaminated.

Field Application Steps

1. PRE-DEPLOYMENT INSPECTION: Visually inspect both gloves for holes in the fingertips or palm, separated seams, and non-functional hook-and-loop closure. Confirm both gloves are dry and free of caustic contaminants from previous use.

2. DONNING THE GLOVE: Insert your hand fully into the glove, ensuring each finger is completely seated to preserve dexterity. Pull the cuff down to the base of the wrist before securing the closure.

3. SECURING THE WRIST CLOSURE: Fasten the hook-and-loop wrist strap snug enough to prevent rotation during dynamic tasks, but not so tight as to restrict blood flow or wrist movement. Repeat the donning and securing process for the second hand.

4. OPERATIONAL USE: Use the synthetic leather palm for positive tool control on oily or contaminated surfaces. Rely on the reinforced fingertips and high-dexterity design for precise manipulation of small components such as bolts, wires, retaining pins, and electrical connectors.

5. FLUID SATURATION PROTOCOL: If gloves become saturated with oil, fuel, or any external fluid during the task, remove and replace them immediately. Grip capability and operator safety are compromised once saturation occurs.

6. DOFFING WITHOUT CONTAMINATION: Release the hook-and-loop closure on one wrist. Grasp the glove at the palm-side cuff and pull it off, turning it inside-out as it comes free.

7. REMOVING THE SECOND GLOVE: Hold the removed glove in your still-gloved hand. Slide two fingers of the bare hand under the cuff of the remaining glove, making contact only with the interior surface. Peel the second glove off over the first, containing the contaminated exterior inside.

8. POST-OPERATION INSPECTION AND SUSTAINMENT: Inspect palms, fingers, and seams for new wear, holes, or thread fraying. Clean with mild soap and cool water, squeeze out excess moisture, and hang to dry in a ventilated area away from direct sunlight or heat sources.
