Quick Overview

The Rothco MOLLE II 100-Round SAW/Utility Pouch is a modular load-carrying pouch designed to secure and provide rapid access to a 100-round belted ammunition box, used by automatic riflemen and machine gunners during sustained fire engagements or configured for medical, tool, or sustainment roles.

The pouch is constructed in two material variants: 600D Polyester for standard use where weight savings are prioritized, and 1000D Cordura Nylon in MultiCam for high-wear environments involving prone movement or urban rubble. Dimensions of 6.5 by 4.5 by 2.5 inches are sized specifically to accept a standard 100-round SAW box. A single large quick-release buckle secures the main flap and supports one-handed operation with or without gloves, a critical capability during dynamic fire engagements. A metal-reinforced drain grommet at the base allows passive water and debris evacuation, preventing ammunition corrosion and retained weight in wet or maritime conditions.

Attachment is accomplished via two integrated 6-inch MOLLE straps on the rear panel, each terminating in a metal snap. Straps must be woven through PALS webbing in a strict alternating pattern to create a stable, integrated connection that resists bouncing and load shift during movement. Improper weave pattern is the most common attachment failure point and must be verified before every deployment. The pouch is compatible with any MOLLE/PALS platform including plate carriers, chest rigs, tactical belts, and rucksacks.

When configured as a medical pouch, the operator carries sole responsibility for adhering to their certified scope of practice. The intended maximum load is approximately 3.1 pounds, equivalent to a fully loaded 100-round SAW box. Both material variants are flammable and will degrade under direct flame or extreme heat exposure.

Field Application Steps

1. IDENTIFY MOUNTING LOCATION: Select a position on your MOLLE/PALS grid that allows unobstructed access to the pouch without interfering with your sidearm draw or overall freedom of movement. Mount on the support side to enable efficient non-dominant hand access during reload.

2. UNFASTEN MOLLE STRAPS: Release the metal snaps at the bottom of both integrated 6-inch MOLLE attachment straps before beginning the weave.

3. WEAVE FIRST STRAP: Thread the first strap down through the top row of PALS webbing on your platform, then back up through the corresponding pouch webbing. Continue the alternating over-under pattern until the strap is fully threaded through all available rows.

4. SECURE METAL SNAP: Pull the strap tight to eliminate all slack and fasten the metal snap firmly. Repeat the full weave and snap procedure for the second strap.

5. VERIFY ATTACHMENT: Vigorously pull on the mounted pouch in multiple directions to confirm a stable, zero-movement connection before loading contents or moving to the operational area.

6. LOAD PRIMARY ITEM: Insert the 100-round SAW box or designated equipment into the main compartment and ensure it is fully seated with no portion protruding above the pouch opening.

7. CLOSE AND ENGAGE BUCKLE: Pull the main flap down over the contents, then insert the male buckle end into the female end until you register both an audible click and a tactile confirmation of full seating.

8. ADJUST STRAP TENSION: Cinch the adjustable retention strap to remove all remaining slack. Contents must not shift or produce audible movement when the operator moves through terrain.

9. EXECUTE ACCESS DRILL: Locate the buckle by feel using your non-dominant hand, depress both sides firmly to release, and sweep the flap open and away from the pouch opening. Grasp and retrieve the primary content with the same hand to build consistent muscle memory.

10. RE-SECURE AFTER ACCESS: When tactically permissible, close the flap and re-engage the buckle to protect any remaining contents and eliminate potential snag hazards during continued movement.

11. CONDUCT PRE-OPERATIONAL INSPECTION: Before each deployment, visually inspect all stitching and seams for fraying or separation, check the plastic buckle for cracks or debris, test metal snaps for positive engagement, inspect all webbing for wear, and confirm the drain grommet is clear of mud or obstructions.
