Quick Overview

The Rothco MOLLE II 200 Round SAW Pouch is a structured, high-volume tactical load carrier designed for automatic riflemen and field operators who require secure, immediately accessible ammunition or mission-essential equipment integrated directly onto their load-bearing equipment.

The pouch is purpose-built around one primary function: carrying a standard 200-round M249 SAW ammunition drum with stability across varied terrain and dynamic movement. Its internal hard plastic wall inserts eliminate pouch sag under heavy loads, maintaining a rigid open profile that enables one-handed insertion and retrieval without the pouch collapsing inward. This structural integrity is the defining capability that separates this platform from standard soft-sided utility pouches. The exterior is constructed from 600D polyester and 1000D Cordura fabric, providing professional-grade resistance to abrasion, tearing, and environmental exposure.

Attachment is achieved through a triple MOLLE strap system woven through PALS webbing, with metal snap closures that distribute the weight of a fully loaded drum across the carrier platform. At approximately 7 pounds when loaded, proper weight distribution is a readiness-critical consideration. The top flap secures via a large quick-release buckle engineered for positive engagement and one-handed operation with gloves. A reinforced metal-lined drainage grommet at the base allows passive water and debris clearance during field crossings, protecting contents from waterlogging.

Secondary deployment roles include high-volume trauma or IV kit carriage, field ration sustainment loads, and transport of sensitive equipment such as night vision optics or GPS units requiring compression protection. The approximately 218 cubic inch internal volume and rigid structure make this pouch a versatile operator platform across multiple mission profiles.

Field Application Steps

1. SELECT MOUNTING LOCATION: Identify a section of PALS webbing on your plate carrier, cummerbund, or rucksack that allows unobstructed access to the pouch without interfering with weapon shouldering or sidearm draw. Account for the 9.5 inch height by 7 inch width footprint when selecting placement.

2. WEAVE THE MOLLE STRAPS: Starting from the top strap, thread each of the three integrated MOLLE straps through the first row of PALS webbing on your kit, then back through the corresponding row of webbing on the pouch itself, alternating between kit webbing and pouch webbing until each strap is fully woven.

3. SECURE ALL METAL SNAPS: Press each metal snap firmly to close. You must hear and feel a positive click on all three straps. An improperly woven or unsnapped strap is a point of failure and a snag hazard under movement.

4. CONDUCT A STABILITY TEST: Aggressively pull and shake the empty mounted pouch in all directions. Movement should be minimal to nonexistent. If the pouch shifts or rotates, remove it and re-weave the straps before loading.

5. OPEN THE TOP FLAP: Depress the sides of the quick-release buckle with one hand to disengage the closure and fold the top flap back fully.

6. INSERT AND SEAT THE LOAD: Place the 200-round SAW drum, medical kit, or mission-designated equipment into the main compartment. Ensure the item is fully seated at the bottom of the pouch before closing.

7. CLOSE AND SECURE THE FLAP: Pull the top flap over the contents and engage both the male and female ends of the buckle until it clicks shut. Cinch the adjustable strap to remove all slack, preventing contents from shifting or rattling during movement.

8. DRILL ONE-HANDED ACCESS: Using your non-firing hand, practice locating and disengaging the buckle without looking. Repeat the extract and re-index sequence until access is consistent and reliable under simulated stress conditions.
