1. INSPECT THE SYSTEM: Conduct a full pre-use inspection per Section 5. Check the pack body for tears, frayed seams, and damaged zippers. Squeeze the bladder to pressure-test seams and the cap seal, and visually inspect for punctures or discoloration. Test the bite valve On/Off lock and check the hose for cracks or kinks.
2. FILL AND SEAL THE BLADDER: Fill the bladder with potable water only, to a maximum of 3 liters. Expel excess air from the bladder before sealing the cap securely to prevent pressure buildup during movement.
3. ASSEMBLE THE HYDRATION SUBSYSTEM: Connect the insulated hose to the bladder's base port and confirm a positive lock. Insert the bladder flat against the back panel of the main compartment to ensure even weight distribution and prevent shifting.
4. LOAD THE FRONT COMPARTMENT: Place only mission-critical small items into the front zippered compartment. Do not overstuff. The zipper must close without strain. This compartment is isolated from bladder condensation and is suitable for electronics, paper documents, and light tools.
5. DON AND ADJUST THE HARNESS: Use the top carry handle to lift the pack, don one shoulder strap then the other. Cinch shoulder straps evenly so the pack rides high and tight with minimal sag. Fasten the sternum strap and adjust its height and tension to eliminate lateral shifting during movement.
6. ROUTE AND POSITION THE HOSE: Route the drinking hose over one shoulder and secure it through the elastic loops on the shoulder strap. Position the bite valve forward for immediate access without adjusting the pack or breaking movement.
7. OPERATE THE BITE VALVE: Rotate the bite valve lock to the ON position, bite down firmly, and draw water. Immediately return the valve to the OFF position after drinking to prevent leakage during movement.
8. MONITOR AND ADJUST DURING MOVEMENT: If the pack bounces or shifts during operation, halt and re-adjust the harness before continuing. An unsecured load at pace creates fatigue and potential injury risk.
9. EXECUTE EMERGENCY DOFFING IF REQUIRED: In a critical situation involving entanglement or aquatic immersion, grasp both quick-release buckles simultaneously and squeeze firmly to disengage. The pack will fall away from the body. Maintain situational awareness, as the dropped pack may create a secondary hazard.
10. CLEAN AND DRY THE SYSTEM POST-MISSION: Fully drain the bladder and hose. Disconnect the hose from the bladder. Wash the bladder interior with warm soapy water using a dedicated cleaning brush kit and rinse until no soap remains. Periodically sanitize using cleaning tablets or a bleach and baking soda solution per manufacturer instructions, followed by exhaustive rinsing.
11. DRY COMPLETELY BEFORE STORAGE: Prop the bladder open for maximum airflow and hang it upside down. Clear the hose with a brush and hang it separately to dry fully. No component should be stored with any residual moisture present.
12. STORE FOR LONG-TERM READINESS: Store the pack in a cool, dry, dark environment. Keep the bladder cap off during storage to promote air circulation and prevent microbial growth.
