Quick Overview

The Rothco Tactical Eyewear Kit is a modular, multi-lens eye protection system designed for military and tactical operators who require ballistic-rated ocular coverage across varying light conditions, with integrated prescription lens capability for operators requiring corrective vision.

The kit is built around a polycarbonate frame that accepts three interchangeable lenses, each optimized for a distinct operational environment. The smoke lens is deployed in bright sunlight, desert, and snow conditions to reduce light transmission and mitigate glare. The yellow lens is selected for low-light, overcast, or fog conditions, filtering blue light to enhance contrast and depth perception. The clear lens provides maximum light transmission with full ballistic protection for indoor and nighttime operations. All three lenses are 2mm shatterproof polycarbonate rated to UV400.

A key capability of this system is its Rx insert, which clips securely behind the main protective lens and eliminates the need for prescription glasses underneath the frame. This maintains a proper seal and preserves the structural integrity of the eye protection without requiring a separate piece of equipment. The insert must be fitted by a licensed optometrist or optician using the operator's current prescription before deployment.

Readiness protocol requires a pre-use inspection of the frame for cracks, the deployed lens for scratches or pitting, and verification that the lens is fully seated. Lenses are rated for common small projectile impact but are not a substitute for full-seal ballistic goggles and provide no protection against chemical vapors, splashes, or CBRN environments. Equipment showing deep scratches, cracks, or frame stress fractures must be decommissioned immediately.

Field Application Steps

1. OBTAIN Rx INSERT FITTING: Take the provided Rx insert to a qualified, licensed optometrist or optician. Provide your current prescription and have corrective lenses manufactured and fitted to the insert before any operational deployment.

2. INSTALL THE Rx INSERT: Align the clips on the Rx insert with the receptacles on the interior of the frame's nose bridge. Apply firm, even pressure until the insert snaps securely into place, then verify full seating before proceeding.

3. SELECT THE CORRECT LENS FOR CONDITIONS: Choose the smoke lens for bright sunlight, desert, or snow environments. Choose the yellow lens for low-light, overcast, or foggy conditions. Choose the clear lens for indoor or nighttime operations.

4. EXECUTE LENS EXCHANGE WHEN TRANSITIONING ENVIRONMENTS: Remove the currently installed lens from the frame. Select the appropriate replacement lens for the new operational environment. Install the new lens and verify a complete, gap-free seat in the frame before donning.

5. DON AND CONDUCT FIT CHECK: Place the eyewear on your face and confirm the frame rests comfortably on your nose and ears. Inspect for significant gaps between the frame and face along the sides, top, and bottom that would allow debris to enter.

6. VERIFY FIELD OF VIEW: Confirm that your field of view is clear and unobstructed. If the Rx insert is deployed, verify that vision is corrected without distortion before entering the operational environment.

7. CONDUCT PRE-USE INSPECTION: Before each use, inspect the frame for cracks or signs of fatigue. Inspect the deployed lens for scratches or damage that could impede vision or compromise ballistic integrity. Verify the lens is fully seated and the Rx insert, if used, is clean and securely attached.

8. CLEAN AFTER USE: Remove loose dirt by rinsing with clean water or blowing off with air. Use the provided microfiber pouch to gently wipe the lens. Do not use paper products, clothing, or abrasive materials at any stage of the cleaning process.

9. ADDRESS HEAVY CONTAMINATION: For grime or oil accumulation, apply a dedicated lens cleaning solution or mild soap and water. Rinse thoroughly and dry using the microfiber pouch.

10. STORE THE KIT CORRECTLY: Place all components inside the provided hard carry case, using the microfiber pouch as a divider between lenses to prevent contact scratching. Do not store the kit in direct sunlight or extreme heat, including on a vehicle dashboard, as prolonged exposure degrades frame integrity and lens coatings.
