Quick Overview

Tactical knee pads are professional-grade protective equipment worn over the knee joint to absorb impact, resist abrasion, and establish a stable kneeling platform for law enforcement officers, tradespeople, and field operators working on hard or uneven surfaces.

Knee pads provide critical protection through a layered component system. The half-inch high-density closed-cell foam core absorbs and dissipates impact forces during drop-to-knee movements and crawling, reducing peak stress on the patella on surfaces like concrete, gravel, and rock. The contoured non-slip rubberized cap provides positive traction on wet pavement, tile, and polished concrete, maintaining a stable platform during static holds and dynamic movement. The 900D polyester and 1000D Cordura Nylon fabric chassis protects the foam core from abrasion and extends service life under sustained field conditions.

Secure fit is the primary variable that determines whether knee pads perform at their rated capability. Dual adjustable hook-and-loop elastic straps, one positioned superior and one inferior to the knee joint, anchor the pad against rotation and downward slippage during running, climbing, and stand-to-kneel transitions. Proper strap tension must be snug without restricting blood flow. Operators should check for numbness, tingling, or discoloration as indicators of over-tightening.

These pads are designated non-ballistic protective gear. They mitigate blunt force impact but will not prevent injury from high-velocity falls or severe trauma, and they carry no NIJ or ballistic rating. They are not rated for fire or flame resistance, and prolonged exposure to harsh chemicals, solvents, or extreme heat will degrade rubber, foam, and fabric components, compromising protective integrity.

Field Application Steps

1. ORIENT THE PAD: Identify the top and bottom of the pad before donning. The wider strap is the superior strap. Position the rubberized cap so it will sit centered directly over your patella when the pad is applied.

2. SECURE THE INFERIOR STRAP: Feed the bottom strap around the back of the leg just below the calf and fasten the hook-and-loop closure. Tension should be snug but not tight enough to restrict blood flow to the lower leg or foot.

3. SECURE THE SUPERIOR STRAP: Feed the top strap around the thigh approximately 2 to 3 inches above the top of the patella and fasten the hook-and-loop closure. This strap is the primary anchor against downward slippage during movement.

4. CONDUCT A TENSION AND FUNCTION CHECK: Assume a kneeling position, return to standing, and flex the knee several times. The pad should remain centered over the patella without pinching the back of the knee. Adjust both straps as needed to balance security and comfort before committing to an operational period.

5. MONITOR CIRCULATION DURING USE: Throughout the operational period, check periodically for numbness, tingling, or discoloration in the lower leg or foot. If any symptoms occur, loosen straps immediately. Equipment must remain secure, not constrictive.

6. DOFF THE PAD CORRECTLY: Disengage both the superior and inferior hook-and-loop closures, then pull the pad away from the knee. Do not force the pad off with straps still engaged, as this stresses the strap attachment points.

7. CONDUCT POST-USE INSPECTION: Before stowing, inspect straps for fraying, loss of elasticity, and hook-and-loop engagement quality. Check the rubber cap for deep gouges, cracking, or separation from the chassis. Examine the fabric for rips, tears, or separated stitching. Manually compress the foam core. It should feel firm and return to shape. If the foam is permanently compressed or fails to rebound, tag the pad out of service and replace it.

8. CLEAN AND STORE PROPERLY: Remove loose debris with a stiff brush and water, then wipe down the rubber cap. For heavy soiling, hand wash with a soft brush, mild soap, and cold water, then rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue. Do not machine wash or machine dry. Air dry completely away from direct sunlight and high heat before stowing in a cool, dry, dark environment.
