Quick Overview

The Rothco Tactical Single Point Sling is a weapon retention system designed for operators who require rapid weapon presentation, ambidextrous shoulder transitions, and immediate sidearm access in close-quarters battle, vehicle operations, and other dynamic environments.

The sling attaches to a rifle or shotgun via a single receiver-mounted HK-style metal spring clip, allowing the firearm to hang centered on the operator's dominant side while the harness loop rests on the non-firing shoulder. The adjustable nylon webbing spans 42 to 64 inches, accommodating varied body sizes and equipment loadouts including plate carriers and chest rigs. An integrated dual bungee section absorbs weapon movement during dynamic activity, reducing bounce and providing the slight forward resistance that supports fast, aggressive shouldering.

The Quick-Release buckle is a critical capability component, enabling the operator to detach the firearm and bungee section from the main harness in a single action without removing the harness from the body. This supports emergency weapon ditching and rapid transfer scenarios. The metal spring clip gate must be fully closed and verified after every attachment. The sling is not recommended for extended patrols, complex terrain navigation, or situations requiring secure unattended weapon retention, where a two-point sling is the more appropriate system.

Pre-operation inspection covers webbing integrity, stitching at all hardware connection points, bungee elasticity, spring clip condition, and QR buckle function. Any component showing cracking, deformation, corrosion, or degraded spring tension requires immediate removal from service. This is an expendable item with no fixed service life.

Field Application Steps

1. DON AND ORIENT THE SLING: Orient the sling so the metal spring clip and QR buckle face forward. Pass the loop over your head and non-dominant arm, positioning the harness diagonally across your chest and back so it rests on your non-firing shoulder.

2. ADJUST STRAP LENGTH WITH FULL KIT EQUIPPED: Don all operational gear before adjusting. Attach an unloaded, cleared weapon and use the sliding buckle to set strap length so the pistol grip rests near your dominant hand when the weapon hangs freely.

3. VERIFY MUZZLE CLEARANCE AND RANGE OF MOTION: Confirm the muzzle angles safely downward and clears the ground when kneeling. Move through your full range of motion to identify any interference with your plate carrier, chest rig, or holster draw stroke.

4. ATTACH WEAPON AND VERIFY THE SPRING CLIP: Ensure the firearm has a compatible receiver-mounted single-point sling adapter. Depress the spring clip gate, connect it to the adapter, release the gate, then visually and physically confirm it is fully closed and locked. Pull firmly on the weapon to test the connection.

5. CONDUCT PRE-DEPLOYMENT FUNCTIONS CHECK: With a cleared weapon, practice shouldering from the slung position and confirm the bungee provides slight tension without restricting movement. Practice transitioning to your sidearm and confirm the primary weapon does not obstruct your draw stroke.

6. CLEAR SNAG POINTS AND TEST THE QR BUCKLE: Move, kneel, and simulate corner clearing to identify any environmental snag points. Actuate and re-fasten the QR buckle to confirm positive engagement and audible lock before deployment.
