Quick Overview

The Rothco Thin Red Line Concealed Carry Bag is a low-profile, off-body carry system designed for licensed CCW holders and off-duty first responders who require discreet transport and rapid deployment of a concealed handgun alongside medical and EDC support equipment.

The bag is organized into five distinct operational modules: a rear zippered CCW pocket worn against the body, three front zippered pouches for priority EDC items, a main compartment for sustainment gear, a side MOLLE panel for modular expansion, and a side dump pouch for temporary stowage. The dedicated CCW compartment features a large internal hook-and-loop field for mounting a hook-backed holster. That holster must provide complete, rigid trigger guard coverage at all times. The cross-body shoulder strap allows the operator to rotate the bag from the lower back to the front chest for draw access without removing the bag.

Deployment from this system requires trained, repetitive practice before field use. The draw sequence involves rotating the bag forward with the support hand, ripping the pre-staged zipper open in a single fluid motion, establishing a full firing grip on the handgun while it remains holstered, and drawing to a high-compressed ready position with the trigger finger indexed along the frame. Dry-fire and live-fire training under a certified instructor are mandatory prerequisites for this carry method.

Off-body carry introduces readiness tradeoffs that every operator must manage actively. The bag can be lost, stolen, or snatched, which makes constant positive control a non-negotiable protocol. The "Thin Red Line" embroidery also creates a visual signature that may identify the carrier as a first responder affiliate to both friendly and hostile observers, a factor that must be weighed in any deployment environment.

Field Application Steps

1. SELECT AND MOUNT YOUR HOLSTER: Choose a hook-backed holster specifically designed for your firearm model that provides complete, rigid trigger guard coverage. Mount it to the internal loop field inside the rear CCW compartment, adjusting position and angle to produce a clean, repeatable draw stroke, then verify that the hook-and-loop adhesion is fully secure.

2. LOAD OUT BY COMPARTMENT PRIORITY: Stage your firearm and one spare magazine in the CCW pocket. Place your tourniquet in an outer front pouch or on the MOLLE panel for one-handed access, your phone, keys, and flashlight in the front zippered pouches, and your IFAK and power bank in the main compartment.

3. CONFIGURE THE CARRY SYSTEM: Adjust the shoulder strap for a snug cross-body fit with the bag resting at your lower back or hip. Verify that the CCW compartment zipper is reachable with your support hand, and pre-stage the dual zipper pulls for a faster, ergonomic draw stroke.

4. PRACTICE THE BAG ROTATION: Before any field deployment, drill the motion of using your support hand to swing the bag from your back to your front chest. Your dominant hand should remain free throughout this action to prepare for the draw or manage other tasks.

5. ACCESS THE CCW COMPARTMENT UNDER STRESS: When a threat is identified, rotate the bag forward and grip the pre-staged zipper pull with your support hand. Open the compartment in a single, decisive, fluid motion to fully expose the grip of the firearm.

6. ESTABLISH A FULL FIRING GRIP: Move your dominant hand into the compartment and acquire a firm, full firing grip on the handgun while it remains seated in the holster. Your trigger finger must remain straight and indexed along the frame until sights are on target and the decision to fire has been made.

7. EXECUTE THE DRAW STROKE: Draw the firearm straight out of the holster and bring it to a high-compressed ready position before extending toward the threat. Maintain muzzle awareness at all times during the draw and transition.

8. CONDUCT PRE-USE INSPECTION: Before each use, check all zippers for smooth operation and test quick-release buckles for positive lock-up. Inspect the shoulder strap, carry handle, and MOLLE webbing for fraying or compromised stitching, and confirm the holster has not shifted inside the CCW compartment.

9. PERFORM POST-USE MAINTENANCE: Clean the bag with a damp cloth and mild soap only. Do not machine wash or dry, as this degrades the PVC lining and fabric integrity. Air dry completely before returning the system to service.

10. STORE SECURELY WHEN NOT IN USE: When the bag is staged with a firearm inside, secure it in a location consistent with all applicable safe storage laws and best practices. Do not leave the bag unattended in any environment where positive control cannot be maintained.
