1. PRE-DEPLOYMENT INSPECTION: Before each use, actuate all zippers to confirm smooth operation and check shoulder strap clips for positive engagement. Visually inspect all canvas seams, leather handles, and strap anchor points for fraying, cracking, or separation.
2. LOAD DISTRIBUTION: Pack heavier, less critical items at the bottom of the main compartment to establish a low center of gravity and protect the hard bottom insert. Distribute lighter items toward the top to maintain bag structure and ease of access.
3. ITEM SEGREGATION: Stow mission-sensitive items, including passport, wallet, and keys, in the internal zippered pocket. Place frequently accessed items such as mobile devices, cables, and notebooks in the two open slip pockets for rapid retrieval.
4. STRAP MANAGEMENT: If deploying via the trolley sleeve, detach the shoulder strap and stow it inside the main compartment. An attached but unused shoulder strap presents a significant snag hazard on escalators, baggage carousels, and vehicle doors.
5. INTEGRATED CARRY CONFIGURATION: Extend the telescoping handle of your primary rolling suitcase to full height. Slide the Rothco bag's rear trolley sleeve over the handle until the bag rests securely and flat on top of the suitcase.
6. TERMINAL TRANSIT: Maneuver the integrated luggage system with one hand, keeping your secondary hand free for documents, communication devices, or maintaining situational awareness throughout the terminal.
7. DIS-INTEGRATION AT SEAT: Upon reaching your aircraft seat, grip the leather top grab handles and lift the bag clear of the rolling suitcase handle. Do not attempt to slide the bag off by pulling on the canvas body or shoulder strap attachment points.
8. AIRCRAFT STOWAGE: Place the bag under the seat in front of you with the hard bottom insert and brass feet oriented downward. Confirm the bag does not obstruct emergency egress paths before securing yourself in your seat.
9. STANDALONE SHOULDER CARRY: When operating without rolling luggage, attach the shoulder strap to the two antique brass D-rings. Adjust length so the bag sits at the hip for crossbody carry or at the side for shoulder carry, without impeding movement or access to the main compartment.
10. TROLLEY SLEEVE POCKET CONVERSION: When operating in standalone configuration, zip the bottom of the trolley sleeve closed to convert it into an external flat pocket. Use this pocket for low-value, non-essential items requiring quick access, such as boarding passes or magazines. Do not store mission-critical items in this unsecured external pocket.
11. POST-USE CANVAS CARE: Empty the bag and brush away dry debris with a stiff brush. Treat stains with a damp cloth and mild, non-detergent soap. Air dry completely away from direct heat and sunlight. Do not machine wash or machine dry.
12. LONG-TERM STORAGE: Ensure the bag is completely clean and dry before storage. Store in a cool, dry, dark location to prevent UV degradation and mildew. A damp canvas bag stored improperly will develop mildew that can permanently damage and stain the fabric.
