Quick Overview

The Rothco Windstorm Tactical Goggles are a field-ready eye protection system designed for operators working in particulate-heavy environments, UV exposure conditions, and low-velocity projectile scenarios such as airsoft and force-on-force training.

The goggle system integrates UV400-rated polycarbonate lenses with an anti-fog hydrophilic coating and a vented frame to maintain optical clarity during high-exertion operations. A continuous soft foam seal blocks ingress of wind, sand, and fine particulates, making these goggles a reliable capability in desert vehicle operations and rotary wing aircraft zones. The 1.5-inch adjustable elastic strap secures the unit to bare head or helmet retention systems, providing a firm, non-slip fit under dynamic movement.

Operators must understand the defined limits of this system before deployment. These goggles carry no ballistic rating and are explicitly prohibited from live-fire, CBRN, firefighting, and industrial environments requiring ANSI or OSHA impact certification. The foam seal protects against particulates only and will not prevent penetration by chemical splashes, hazardous vapors, or bloodborne pathogens.

Sustainment protocol is straightforward but non-negotiable. A full pre-deployment inspection covering lens integrity, frame condition, foam adhesion, and strap elasticity is required before each operational use. Cleaning must follow a rinse, wash, rinse, air-dry sequence using mild soap and soft fingertips only. There are no user-serviceable parts, and continued use of any damaged unit is prohibited.

Field Application Steps

1. LENS EXAMINATION: Hold the goggle up to a light source and inspect for cracks, deep scratches, or coating delamination. If significant damage is present, remove the unit from service and replace it before deployment.

2. FRAME AND SEAL CHECK: Flex the frame gently to check for brittleness or stress cracks. Inspect the foam padding to confirm it is fully adhered and free of compression damage or crumbling material.

3. STRAP INTEGRITY CHECK: Inspect the elastic strap for fraying, loss of elasticity, or damage to the adjustment hardware. A compromised strap will fail under stress and must be replaced before use.

4. PRE-ADJUST THE STRAP: Estimate the required strap length before donning and adjust via the buckles to approximate fit. Pre-adjustment is critical because fine-tuning is significantly more difficult once the unit is worn.

5. POSITION AND SEAT THE FRAME: Hold the frame in your dominant hand and guide the strap behind your head or over your helmet with your non-dominant hand. Bring the frame to your face ensuring the nose bridge is properly seated and the foam padding makes even contact around the entire perimeter.

6. SECURE AND TENSION THE STRAP: Position the strap horizontally above the ears for bare-head wear, or integrate it with your helmet retention system. Adjust tension until the goggle is secure against rapid head movement without causing discomfort or impeding circulation.

7. SEAL CONFIRMATION: Press lightly along the entire frame edge to confirm a positive seal with no significant gaps where particulates could enter.

8. FIELD OF VIEW CHECK: Scan left, right, up, and down to confirm the goggle frame does not create an unacceptable operational blind spot before moving into the mission environment.

9. POST-MISSION CLEANING: Rinse the goggle under low-pressure lukewarm water to remove debris, then wash gently with mild soap or a dedicated goggle cleaning solution applied with fingertips only. Do not scrub. Rinse thoroughly and allow the lens to air dry. Never wipe a wet interior lens, as this will smear or remove the anti-fog coating.

10. STORAGE: Store the goggle in a protective sleeve or case in a clean, dry, temperature-controlled environment away from direct sunlight. UV exposure degrades both the elastic strap and foam seal over time.
