Quick Overview

The Silva Ranger 2.0 is a professional-grade mirror sighting compass used for taking highly accurate long-distance bearings without parallax error. Its integrated clinometer also enables the operator to measure slope angles for route planning and preliminary terrain hazard assessment, such as avalanche risk.

Field Application Steps

  1. Set local magnetic declination using the adjustment screw inside the housing.
  2. Open the mirror to 45°, aim the Direction of Travel Arrow at the target, and align the target in the sighting hole.
  3. While sighting the target, rotate the bezel until the red orienting arrow in the mirror's reflection captures the red magnetic needle.
  4. Read the precise bearing from the degree dial at the fixed index line.
  5. To measure a slope, turn the compass on its side, sight along the top edge, and read the angle from the clinometer scale.
