- Open lid to 90° and rear sight to 45°, placing thumb in loop.
- Raise compass to eye level and look through the rear sight lens.
- Align the front sight wire with the distant target object.
- Read the magnetic azimuth on the dial where it aligns with the fixed index line.
- For night navigation, align the three glowing tritium sights (one front, two rear) with the target.
