Quick Overview

The Kemp USA 10x30 Sterile Multi-Trauma Dressing is a large-format primary wound covering designed for first responders and trained personnel to manage major lacerations, burns, abrasions, and degloving injuries when smaller gauze pads are insufficient.

The 10" x 30" pad is engineered to cover an entire limb segment or a large portion of the torso in a single application, reducing time and resource expenditure in high-stress environments. Its multi-ply construction combines a high-volume absorbent filler core that wicks blood and exudate away from the wound bed with a soft non-woven outer layer that acts as a bacterial barrier and minimizes tissue snagging during application and removal. All materials are 100% latex-free, eliminating anaphylactic risk in susceptible patients.

This dressing serves a specific doctrinal role: it is an absorbent and protective cover deployed after initial hemorrhage control has been achieved, not a substitute for direct pressure or tourniquet application on arterial bleeds. Personnel must confirm life-threatening hemorrhage is controlled before applying this dressing. Once applied, the dressing requires external fixation using roller gauze or elastic wrap to remain operationally effective, as it is not self-adherent.

Readiness requires monthly visual inspection of each package for tears, punctures, or water damage, with immediate removal of any compromised or expired units from service. Storage must be in a clean, dry, climate-controlled environment, and resupply requests should be submitted immediately after any use to maintain PAR levels. Failure to sustain inventory creates capability gaps that cannot be corrected during a Mass Casualty Incident.

Field Application Steps

1. SCENE SAFETY AND BSI: Confirm the scene is safe before making patient contact. Don nitrile gloves and eye protection at minimum before proceeding.

2. EXPOSE AND ASSESS THE INJURY: Expose the affected limb fully, cutting away clothing as necessary. Inspect for life-threatening arterial hemorrhage, identified by bright red, spurting blood. If arterial bleeding is present, address it immediately with direct pressure or a tourniquet before applying this dressing.

3. PREPARE THE WOUND: If protocols allow and the situation permits, irrigate the wound with sterile saline or clean water to remove gross contamination. Do not scrub the wound. This dressing is designed to absorb, not debride.

4. OPEN THE DRESSING: Tear the packaging at the designated notches and peel carefully to expose the dressing. Avoid touching the side of the pad that will make direct contact with the wound surface.

5. APPLY THE DRESSING: Unfold the pad to its full 10" x 30" size. Place it directly over the entire injured surface area, ensuring all exposed tissue is covered. Center the thickest portion of the pad over the area of heaviest bleeding.

6. SECURE THE DRESSING: Use roller gauze or an elastic wrap to fix the dressing in place. Wrap distal to proximal. Apply snug enough to hold the dressing firmly but not tight enough to compromise distal circulation. Verify the distal pulse after securing.

7. REASSESS: Check for bleed-through and confirm distal circulation is intact. Document the time of application. Prepare the patient for transport to definitive medical care.
