Quick Overview

Kemp USA Burn Cream Packets are single-dose, lidocaine and antiseptic first aid packets used by workplace safety officers and first aid responders to deliver immediate pain relief and infection control for minor thermal burns in field and occupational settings.

Each 0.9g foil-sealed packet contains two active ingredients operating in distinct roles. Lidocaine HCL blocks sodium channels in nerve endings, interrupting pain signal transmission to provide rapid topical analgesia. Benzalkonium Chloride disrupts bacterial cellular membranes, creating an antiseptic barrier over compromised skin and reducing secondary infection risk. The water-soluble cream base provides an additional cooling effect by drawing thermal energy away from tissue, and its non-adherent properties allow easy removal without trauma to the wound bed.

Deployment protocol follows three sequential phases: scene safety and burn cooling, cream application, and dressing with aftercare guidance. The burn must be cooled with cool running water for a minimum of 10 minutes before cream is applied. The full 0.9g contents of one packet are applied as a thin, even layer across the entire burn surface using a sterile applicator or gloved fingertip, then covered with a sterile non-adherent dressing secured with medical tape kept clear of the burn itself.

This product is indicated only for superficial first-degree burns and minor partial-thickness second-degree burns smaller than 2 to 3 inches in diameter, excluding high-risk locations including the face, hands, feet, and major joints. It is not a definitive medical treatment and is contraindicated for severe burns, chemical or electrical burns, airway burns, known lidocaine or "-caine" anesthetic allergies, and children under 2 years of age.

Field Application Steps

1. ENSURE SCENE SAFETY AND DON PPE: Confirm the scene is safe before approaching the casualty. Put on nitrile gloves at minimum before making contact with the burn site.

2. REMOVE CLOTHING AND JEWELRY FROM THE BURN AREA: Remove any clothing or jewelry near the burn site. If material is adhered to the skin, cut around it and do not pull.

3. STOP THE BURNING PROCESS WITH COOL RUNNING WATER: Immediately cool the burn using cool running water, not cold water and not ice, for a minimum of 10 minutes and ideally up to 20 minutes. This step is critical to halting ongoing tissue damage before any topical treatment is applied.

4. PAT THE BURN AREA DRY: Gently pat the burn surface dry using sterile gauze or a clean cloth. Do not rub the area.

5. INSPECT AND OPEN THE BURN CREAM PACKET: Take one Kemp USA Burn Cream packet and visually inspect it for punctures, leaks, swelling, or expiration. Tear the packet open at the pre-cut notch.

6. APPLY CREAM TO THE BURN SURFACE: Squeeze the entire 0.9g contents onto a sterile gauze pad, sterile applicator, or gloved fingertip. Apply a thin, even layer across the entire burn surface and do not massage or rub forcefully.

7. COVER WITH A STERILE NON-ADHERENT DRESSING: Cover the treated burn with a sterile, non-adherent dressing. Dry gauze may be substituted if a non-adherent type is unavailable.

8. SECURE THE DRESSING WITHOUT CONTACT TO THE BURN: Secure the dressing with medical tape applied to surrounding intact skin only. Do not apply tape directly over the burn surface.

9. BRIEF THE PATIENT ON MONITORING AND ESCALATION CRITERIA: Instruct the patient to monitor for signs of allergic reaction including rash, itching, and swelling, and for signs of infection including increasing pain, redness, pus, and fever. Direct the patient to seek professional medical evaluation if any of these signs appear or if pain returns as the lidocaine effect wears off.
