- After patient is positioned on the backboard, place one strap across the upper chest (axilla level), one across the hips/pelvis, and one across the lower legs (distal to the knees).
- Route the loose end of each strap through the corresponding handhold on the backboard and back towards the patient's midline.
- Cinch each strap to remove all slack, ensuring firm but not constrictive pressure, and secure by firmly pressing the hook-and-loop surfaces together.
- Conduct a final visual and physical check to confirm all three straps are secure and properly aligned before initiating patient transport.
- Post-use, apply agency-approved disinfectant to all strap surfaces, wipe clean, and dry completely before returning to service.
