Quick Overview

Cut-resistant tactical gloves are law enforcement and security PPE designed to protect operators from laceration and abrasion hazards during personnel searches, premise searches, and general duty patrol while preserving the hand dexterity required for firearm operation, handcuffing, and radio use.

The Rothco Model 3452 gloves are constructed with a genuine cowhide leather shell as the primary external barrier, providing durable abrasion resistance, reliable grip on tools and subjects, and a professional appearance suited to uniform duty. The internal cut-resistant Aramid lining fully lines the glove and is engineered to resist lacerations from slicing and slashing actions, making it the critical protective component during methodical subject searches where concealed edged weapons are a possibility. A shirred elastic wrist secures the glove firmly against removal during a struggle and seals the opening against debris entry.

Operators must understand the verified capability of this PPE alongside its confirmed limitations before deployment. The Aramid liner provides significant protection against slashing threats but offers minimal to no protection against puncture hazards such as hypodermic needles, nails, or ice picks. These gloves are not rated for fire resistance, fast-roping, or heavy-duty breaching tasks, and ISO certification on this product reflects manufacturing quality control standards only, not an ANSI/ISEA cut level or NIJ protection rating.

Readiness sustainment requires pre-shift inspection of all seams, fingertips, and the thumb web, combined with proper cleaning using designated leather products and natural air drying. Gloves must be removed from service immediately if the outer shell is breached, seam stitching is separated, or the gloves become hardened and no longer fit correctly. When in doubt, replace.

Field Application Steps

1. PRE-SHIFT INSPECTION: Lay both gloves flat and visually inspect all seams for integrity, focusing on fingertips and the thumb web. Flex the leather to check for cracking, then invert the glove if possible to inspect the inner Aramid lining for wear or damage. If any cut, tear, hole, or seam separation is present, do not deploy these gloves and acquire a replacement pair.

2. DONNING: Pull each glove decisively onto the hand, ensuring every finger is fully and correctly seated in its respective finger stall. Continue pulling until the shirred elastic wristband seats securely past the wrist bone, creating a firm seal against debris entry and unauthorized removal.

3. DEXTERITY AND FUNCTION CHECK: Make a full fist and flex both hands several times to confirm proper fit and freedom of movement. Where tactically feasible, simulate manipulation of your primary equipment, including firearm draw and trigger index, radio operation, and handcuffing, to confirm dexterity meets operational readiness standards before contact with a subject.

4. SEARCH PROTOCOL APPLICATION: Apply a systematic, firm crushing or grabbing motion when searching clothing and concealment areas rather than a sweeping motion. Do not probe blindly into pockets or enclosed spaces. The Aramid liner is cut-resistant, not puncture-proof, so maintain visual contact with your hand position at all times and remain vigilant for needle or fine-point hazards throughout the search.

5. POST-OPERATION DOFFING AND INSPECTION: Remove gloves carefully after the operation and re-inspect both the outer leather shell and seams for any new damage sustained during deployment. If the outer shell has been breached at any point, assume the Aramid liner is compromised and remove the pair from service immediately. If gloves have been contaminated with Other Potentially Infectious Material (OPIM), doff without allowing skin contact and dispose of the pair according to your agency's biohazard protocols.

6. CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE: Clean the exterior surface with a damp cloth and a designated leather cleaning product only. Do not use soaps, detergents, or submerge the gloves in water, as both methods damage the leather shell and degrade the Aramid liner. Air dry naturally at room temperature and never apply heat from radiators, heaters, or direct sunlight.

7. STORAGE: Store gloves in a controlled environment away from direct sunlight, high heat, and moisture, such as a duty bag or secured locker. Do not store the gloves compressed beneath heavy equipment, as sustained compression deforms the glove structure and stresses seam integrity over time.
