Quick Overview

This 5x9 ABD pad is designed for managing wounds with heavy bleeding or high-volume fluid drainage, such as deep lacerations, major surgical incisions, or large abrasions. It functions as a highly absorbent primary or secondary dressing to protect the injury site and control exudate while awaiting definitive care.

Field Application Steps

  1. Confirm scene safety and don appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  2. Expose the injury, control initial life-threatening hemorrhage as required, and prepare the wound site.
  3. Aseptically open the sterile peel-pouch and apply the ABD pad directly onto the wound or over primary gauze packing.
  4. Secure the pad firmly in place using a pressure dressing, elastic wrap, or medical tape.
  5. Continuously monitor the dressing for bleed-through and assess the patient for signs of shock.
