Quick Overview

The Eco Gel Waste Solidification System is a super-absorbent polymer-based sanitation protocol used by emergency responders, field operators, and displaced populations to safely collect, solidify, and contain human waste when standard plumbing is unavailable.

The system's active agent is a lemongrass-scented, formaldehyde-free powder that converts liquid waste into a semi-solid gel on contact, immobilizing waste to prevent spillage and neutralizing ammonia and biological odors. Each pre-measured stick pack treats 0.5 to 1 gallon of liquid waste, with a planning factor of 2 sticks per person per day for mixed-waste scenarios. The sealed packaging protects the hygroscopic powder from premature moisture activation, ensuring the agent remains field-ready until the moment of deployment.

Deployment follows three sequential phases: system preparation, ongoing use and maintenance, and containment with disposal. During preparation, a heavy-duty liner is staged in a bucket or portable commode with an initial quarter-stick base charge. During use, personnel apply powder incrementally after each use to maximize absorption efficiency. The liner is changed when two-thirds full, when gel saturation is apparent, or at minimum every 24 hours, whichever occurs first.

Containment protocol requires securing the liner with a zip-tie or knot without compressing the bag, then double-bagging in a second heavy-duty trash bag to provide redundant barrier protection during transport. Disposal must comply with local, state, or federal regulations for biohazardous material. The system does not sterilize waste, and hand hygiene with soap or alcohol-based sanitizer after every handling contact remains a non-negotiable operational requirement.

Field Application Steps

1. SELECT AND PREPARE THE SANITATION LOCATION: Designate a sanitation area that is downwind, physically separate from food preparation and sleeping areas, and adequately ventilated if indoors. Prioritize discretion and distance to reduce cross-contamination risk.

2. LINE THE CONTAINER: Place a heavy-duty plastic liner or commode bag inside a sturdy bucket or portable toilet commode. Confirm the liner is large enough to be tied off securely after the container reaches capacity.

3. APPLY THE INITIAL BASE CHARGE: Tear open one Eco Gel stick and sprinkle approximately one-quarter of its contents into the bottom of the empty liner. This base layer primes the container for the first use and begins gel formation immediately upon contact with liquid waste.

4. INSTRUCT PERSONNEL ON APPLICATION PER USE: Direct all personnel to sprinkle a small amount of Eco Gel powder over waste after each individual use, focusing coverage on any new liquid present. Incremental application is more resource-efficient than dispensing a full stick at once.

5. MONITOR ABSORPTION CAPACITY: Plan at the 0.5-gallon-per-stick rating for mixed solid and liquid waste, and at the 1-gallon rating for urine-only collection. Adjust consumption rate upward if personnel are experiencing high-volume liquid output or dysentery conditions.

6. PROMOTE GELLING IF NEEDED: If the gel is not setting firmly after powder application, gently swirl the contents of the container to distribute the powder and ensure full contact with all liquid present.

7. DETERMINE CHANGE-OUT POINT: Change the liner when it reaches approximately two-thirds capacity, when the gel appears saturated and is no longer absorbing effectively, or at a minimum interval of once every 24 hours, whichever condition occurs first.

8. SECURE THE LINER: Carefully gather the top of the liner, twist it tightly to close the opening, and secure it with a zip-tie or a firm knot. Do not compress the bag, as compression can compromise liner integrity and cause breaches during handling.

9. DOUBLE-BAG THE SEALED LINER: Place the secured liner inside a second clean heavy-duty trash bag to create a redundant barrier against leaks or punctures during transport and staging.

10. DISPOSE OF WASTE LAWFULLY: Dispose of the double-bagged waste in accordance with local, state, or federal regulations for biohazardous material. Never dispose in storm drains, water sources, or bury in unauthorized locations.

11. ENFORCE HAND HYGIENE: Require all personnel to wash hands with soap and water or apply an alcohol-based sanitizer immediately after every handling contact. The solidified waste remains a biohazard regardless of gel formation.
