Quick Overview

The Royal Blue CPR Training Valve is a single-use, hygienic airway interface designed for rescue breathing skills practice on CPR training manikins, used by instructors and students in certification courses, workplace drills, and in-service sustainment programs across emergency response disciplines.

The valve is built around three operational systems. The royal blue plastic housing serves as a deliberate visual safety control, distinguishing this training component from field-ready clinical valves, which are typically clear or white, to prevent accidental introduction into operational medical kits. The 22mm outside diameter port provides a universal, friction-fit connection to the vast majority of adult, child, and infant CPR pocket masks, including Ambu, Laerdal, and Kemp models, ensuring a secure seal during simulated ventilations. The internal fibre air filter creates airflow resistance that mirrors a real human airway, building proper ventilation force and volume in students before they encounter live deployment scenarios.

A critical readiness consideration for instructors is what this device is not. It is not a one-way valve and provides no protection against backflow of body fluids or pathogenic materials. Use on a live human patient is strictly prohibited. The device is engineered for single-student, single-session use. The internal filter cannot be cleaned or decontaminated, and any attempt to reuse it compromises hygiene and eliminates training effectiveness.

Proper sustainment of this component requires storing bulk packs in a clean, dry, climate-controlled environment using a First-In, First-Out inventory rotation. Prior to each class, the lead instructor must inspect bulk packaging for damage, crushing, or moisture intrusion before issuing individual units to students.

Field Application Steps

1. PREPARATION AND DISTRIBUTION: Confirm each student station is equipped with a compatible CPR pocket mask before issuing any valves. Distribute one individually wrapped Royal Blue Training Valve to each student and direct all students to keep the sealed wrapper intact until instructed to proceed.

2. PRE-USE INSPECTION: Instruct each student to perform a visual inspection of their wrapped valve while it remains sealed. Check for any tears, punctures, or signs of compromise to the plastic wrapper. If a wrapper is compromised, discard that valve immediately and issue a replacement unit.

3. WRAPPER OPENING AND HANDLING: On instructor command, have students open the wrapper and handle the valve by the blue plastic housing only. Avoid contact with the filter end of the valve to maintain hygiene at the point of deployment.

4. PORT IDENTIFICATION AND SEATING: Identify the 22mm OD port on the valve and locate the corresponding port on the pocket mask. Insert the valve with a firm, direct push until it is fully and securely seated. A snug fit is required to prevent air leakage during simulated ventilations.

5. CONFIRMATION AND TRAINING EXECUTION: Once all students confirm their valves are correctly assembled and seated, proceed with the ventilation skills portion of the training curriculum. Monitor each student for proper technique and verify effective chest rise on the manikin throughout the drill.

6. POST-DRILL DECOMMISSIONING: Upon completion of the rescue breathing module, instruct all students to remove the blue valve from their pocket mask. Immediately dispose of each used valve in a designated waste receptacle and conduct a count to confirm all issued units are accounted for. Reinforce to all students that the device is single-use and must not be retained.
