Quick Overview

The Rothco Drop Leg Medical Pouch is a tactical thigh-mounted carriage platform that provides immediate, one-handed access to user-stocked trauma supplies for military personnel, law enforcement operators, and first responders operating in high-risk environments.

The pouch functions as a detachable Individual First Aid Kit platform secured to the thigh via a 2-inch vertical belt strap and a 1.5-inch horizontal leg strap with integrated rubberized tread. The rip-away hook-and-loop interface allows the medical pouch to be torn free from the drop leg platform in a single motion, enabling ground-level treatment or direct hand-off to another operator. This detachment capability is the core tactical advantage of the system, keeping critical supplies accessible without requiring removal of a primary pack or vest.

The tri-fold interior unfolds to a flat length of 26.75 inches, immediately exposing all staged contents across 13 internal elastic straps and three interior pockets. Components should be staged in MARCH or TCCC protocol order to support muscle memory and reduce decision time under stress. Exterior PALS webbing provides MOLLE-compatible attachment points for zero-step-access tools such as a dedicated tourniquet holder or trauma shears.

This product ships as an empty carriage platform. The operator assumes full responsibility for procuring, staging, and maintaining all medical components appropriate to their training, scope of practice, and operational environment. Expired or improperly sourced supplies represent a mission-critical failure point regardless of the quality of the carriage system.

Field Application Steps

1. POSITION THE PLATFORM ON YOUR SUPPORT SIDE: Thread the 2-inch vertical belt strap over your duty or riggers belt, up to 3 inches wide, on your support side to avoid interfering with your sidearm draw stroke.

2. SET PLATFORM HEIGHT ON THE THIGH: Adjust the vertical strap so the drop leg platform sits high on the thigh. A low-hanging platform will shift excessively during dynamic movement and compromise access speed.

3. SECURE THE HORIZONTAL LEG STRAP: Fasten the 1.5-inch horizontal leg strap snugly around the thigh, tight enough to prevent rotation but not so tight as to restrict circulation or muscle function. The integrated rubberized tread creates friction against the pant leg to prevent sliding.

4. VERIFY ALL BUCKLES AND STAGE EXCESS STRAP: Actuate all buckles to confirm positive lock-up and release. Stow all excess strap material to eliminate snag hazards before mission launch.

5. STAGE MEDICAL COMPONENTS IN PROTOCOL ORDER: Load the 13 internal elastic straps with your medical supplies organized by MARCH or TCCC protocol sequence. Use the 2 open-top slit pockets for flat items such as chest seals and casualty cards, and the zippered mesh pocket for small or loose items such as gloves, tape, and lube jelly.

6. SECURE THE POUCH WITH THE CINCH STRAP: Run the cinch strap over the top of the loaded pouch and close the buckle. This is the primary retention mechanism for the medical pouch during movement.

7. APPROACH THE CASUALTY AND ESTABLISH A WORK PLATFORM: On scene, move to the casualty and take a kneeling position to create a stable base before initiating detachment.

8. RELEASE THE CINCH STRAP BUCKLE: With your support-side hand, release the primary cinch strap buckle on top of the pouch. This is the first required action before rip-away deployment.

9. EXECUTE RIP-AWAY DETACHMENT: Grip the pouch firmly by its body or integral grab handle. In a single, forceful downward motion, pull the pouch away from your body to tear it free from the hook-and-loop drop leg platform.

10. DEPLOY THE TRI-FOLD INTERIOR: Place the detached pouch on the ground next to the casualty's injury, oriented for access. Pull the double zippers to open the pouch, then unfold the tri-fold interior completely to expose all staged supplies across the full 26.75-inch flat length.

11. APPLY THE REQUIRED INTERVENTION: Immediately access and apply the correct intervention based on your training and patient assessment. In a hemorrhage scenario, apply a tourniquet or wound packing as indicated by your scope of practice and TCCC protocols.
